Movie review: Batman Forever · 12:42pm Dec 28th, 2014
Yes. The first of the two infamous Batman movie created by Joel Schumacher! Universally maligned, and hated by fans!
And I don't think it's that bad.
It's not GREAT by any means. It's campy as all hell, the acting leaves a hell of a lot to be desired, the costuming is questionable, and the presentation is bizzare. But I think there is a lot of GOOD this movie does that no one gives it credit for.
Good thing #1: The Plot
Actually it's not a bad story. It's paced well. It's good that they have one villain ALREADY active instead of trying to shoehorn in two origins this killing the pacing. The conflict is presented really well. Whether it's Bruce dealing with his parrellel life with Dick. Dick dealing with his thirst for revenge. Or the Bruce dealing with his feelings for Chase Meridian. All in all, I like it.
Good thing #2: Kilmer as Batman
Yes... He kind of... Undersold it... But I hold that worked!
He had GREAT chemistry with everyone on screen, he played off the others really well, and I hold he had the second best Batman voice next to Kevin Confoy from TAS.
Good Thing #3: O'Donnel as Dick Greyson
I'm going to say it. This guy IS Robin. His performance is SPOTLESS and I have always thought it was a shame that Batman and Robin killed his chance to reprise the role. He's funny, charming, badass and just a joy to watch.
Good thing #4: Carrey as Riddler
SWEAR TO GOD! IF ANYONE HERE COMPLAINS THAT HE WASNT ACTING, HE WAS JUST BEING JIM CARREY, IM GONNA POINT TO A PICTURE OF JACK NICHOLSON'S JOKER AND FEED IT TO YOU!
Yes. He over acted. He went a little too Frank Gorshin with it. But I think it worked. He still had those little moments of pettiness that MAKE the Riddler. Also, it was Jim Carrey! He was funny!
Now like I said... It is not a GREAT movie. There are some things that don't work.
Wrong thing #1: The dialogue.
It gets painful on occasion. It is quite obvious that Batman to Joel Schumacher was the Adam West show. While the corny dialogue WORKED there, times have changed.
Wrong thing #2: Chase Meridian.
If you wanted a pointless, annoying, barely written character, that is there to serve as pointless TnA just bring Pfiffer's Catwoman back! Burton set you up for it!
Wrong thing #3: Two Face.
No excuses. Barely wanna talk about it. It's insanely annoying. Tommy Lee Jones was a GOOD casting choice for Two Face...
And apparently, he's a good choice for JOKER too...
Don't ask... Just... Don't... Ask...
Again. For all this movies faults, I still like it. I saw this movie when I was 3 years old. The first Batman thing I ever saw. I guess it's nostalgia. But I did then, and still do, watch it ever now and then.
And I'll tell you this.
I like it a FUCKTON better than Batman Returns.
