Show MUST Go On: Shout-Outs · 5:45pm Dec 4th, 2014

Yeah, I just can't let this one go.

For those who still don't know me, here's a very big part of my writing style; multidisciplinary.

In Show MUST Go ON!'s case, we're talking about a story that basically resumes my own personal view of life and stuff. It's also my come back from a very dark place. What I'm trying to say, is that Show MUST Go ON! is a culmination of all I've learned, mediated and loved through my time as a writer. So, it's only fair that I acknowledge the source material.

So, sit back and enjoy while I'll pretty much MST3K my own fic.:

General.
Story's tittle: Come on guys, you know where this comes from.
The First-Person narrative it's a homage to JB von Herb. As I said before, his story Mare-Do-Well: Regeneration it's one of the main reason for even joining this site.

Tuning instruments, soundcheck.
The comparison of rain with war-drums comes from those kick-ass posters for 300.
Trixie's description comes almos directly from Ava Lord's one in Sin City: A dame to kill for
The cafeteria scene is an extract from The Flash: Ignition, where Wally West (an amnesiac and depowered Flash) is pretty much in the same situation.
"That cold thing happening in her stomach" And we got another Sin City reference.

The symphony of a life.
Once upon a time, in the magical land of Equestria, there was the most overly used opening in a single fandom.
I would like to think that Hope Lulamon is pretty much a mach-up between Houdini and David Bowie.
Hope never finding love, and when she did she disappeared, is a nod the plot point in Cien Años de Soledad, where characters who actually fall in love usually have a tragedy waiting for them.

An orphan in a basket. There is cliché and THEN is that.
H.P. Lulamoon. Come on. Come! On! Howard Philip "Cthulhu" Lovecraft.
Trixie's childhood is like Ignacio's in the movie Nacho Libre.
Lil Trix, age twelve, just like Dick Grayson when he became Robin.

And Celestia's School plays the role of Hogwarts for Trixie's Harry, just reversed for the student approaching the school.
The last part is also a parallel with Matilda.
Following with the Harry Potter theme, Trixie Walking the Earth after graduating.

Trixie wanting to see the world, just like Aladdin, and coming to know most of it is a nod to the Romani in Cien años de soldedad.
Neigh Orleans.
"...her stance could only belong to a Lulamoon" Another nod to Cien años.... This could have been called García Marquez writes ponies.
Trixie meeting her mother's friends, befriend and being taught by them is the main theme in the comic Justice Society of America.
They also fill the role of the Trenchcoat Brigade in Books of Magic.

Trixie's fall from grace is a mirror of Booster Gold's one from the comic of the same name.
The Mask of Vendetta theater. Do I really need to point this out?
Hell's description is a compilation of shout-outs, so I'm just gonna list the sources:
"An endless desert without anything else?" - Jack Sparrow's fate in Pirates of the Caribbean 3.
"A place of coldness and an eternal storm?" - one of the circles in The Divine Comedy.
"The bottomless abyss of myths?" - Christianity+Nietzsche for the win!
"Fire and brimstone?" - The classical one.
Banished away in solitude? Trapped in stone? Reduced to a shadow? - Nightmare Moon's, Discord's and Sombra's original punishments.
"Hell is surviving without living" - Wall-E
"...wake up every morning, knowing it's not going to get any better until going back to sleep again." - Al Bundy in Married with children.
"...waking up every Celestia damn day and not even knowing why you're here" - Marv in Sin City.

Once again, from the top.
Cruel Angel's Thesis playing is not just a random choice, is to show how Trixie discovers that she's not alone in the world, that she can still advance in life. Just like Shinji at the end of Neon Genesis Evangelion (the series, the movie ruins it all),
Larry the Museum's guard, a.k.a. Ben Stiller in Night at the Museum.
Mister Bundy, the guy from the shoes store, he's also Married with children.
"When you hit bottom, the only place left to go is up." The phrase comes from Disney's most BADASS! movie ever, Atlantis: The Lost Empire.
"Life is a choice and I choice to live." From The Last Days of Animal Man comic.

Well, that's it. This is the most heavily influenced fic ever. See ya.

Some good references. I didn't catch nearly a fraction of them all, honestly.

Trixie as Timothy Hunter? Quite fitting, actually. Might be a story there, if I weren't already up to my nostrils in crossover projects. On the other hand, I'm not so sure I'd want to see Trixie (age twelve) get abducted adopted by Crazy Steve Batman.

Don't worry, as I said, this fic contains a good piece of nearly everything I know about fiction. The only effective way to catch all the shout-outs is to be me. But I had my share of fun listing them, so I decided to post it as well.

When I was assembling Trixie's past, I toyed with various ideas. At some point, she was Zatanna but that would imply a power level that would have annihilated the end of Boast Busters. Then I went for Zatanna's ex-boyfriend, John Constantine, but that was waaaaay too depressing. Finally I found good little Tim, and his relationship with the magical world was really fitting.

And Trixie as a Robin? If you think about it, with Twilight being an ideal example of goodness (Magical Mystery Cure supports me), then Trixie would be more like a Jason Todd for Twilight's Dick.
