Danger Beans

I was once an ordinary Lima Bean. One day I got bitten by a radioactive fanfiction writer and my life was changed forever.

    Pictured: My House.

So I'm currently being rained on by a Hurricane. I'm expecting the power to go out soon, but other than that, it's mostly an inconvenience. :ajbemused:

    Safe in Orlando

I'm sure by this point you're all aware of the shooting which took place in Orlando during the early hours of this morning, what most of you probably don't know is that I actually live in Orlando. The tension here is palpable. This morning everyone was terrified, my sister and I were bombarded with phone calls from various friends and relatives, looking to make sure that we were okay. Even

Friday's Featured Fic: I.D. - That Indestructible Something · 3:04pm Oct 24th, 2014

Title: I.D. - That Indestructible Something
Author: Chatoyance
Genre: [Adventure] [Sci-Fi] [Alternate Universe] [Human]
Word Count: 97k
Link to Story: [Link]
Synopsis: A young woman awakens transformed into an Equestrian pony - yet no other human being can perceive her new body in any way whatsoever. With clumsy hooves, but a bright mind, Gregoria Samson must trust in herself to discover the incredible, monumental truth behind her impossible change.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, before my entire family was run down in front of me by a gang of Swedish unicyclists; when I was but a fresh-faced Beans getting ready to make my mark on an unsuspecting world. I happened to be logging on to Fimfiction, I stumbled upon a story in the top slot of the hallowed Feature Box, and in my youthful naivete, thought its premise sounded quite compelling: a young girl awakens to find herself in the body of a pony! And not just any old pony, Twilight Sparkle!

I eagerly clicked upon chapter one, certain that I was about to embark on a magical journey on the Awesome Express.

I was wrong. Horribly, Horribly, Wrong.

I got maybe five paragraphs into it before my brain cells began to commit hara-kiri.

So fast forward a year or two, when I came across this story on Equestria Daily, needless to say, I was a little skeptical. But seeing as how it managed to get onto EQD, I decided to jump in and hope for the best. And I'm glad I did.

The story starts off simply enough: after a somewhat enigmatic prologue, the protagonist of the story, Gregoria Samson (ten Danger Dollars to anyone who gets the reference), wakes up to find that she has miraculously metamorphosed into a pony. And promptly freaks the fudge out. This was a significant point for me, because this is usually where every other story in this sub-genre goes straight to Hell. For example: in the story I previously mentioned, the Main Character woke up, looked in a mirror to find that she was in the body of Twilight Sparkle and actually deduced her current location within the chronology of MLP! So I decided to keep reading. And what I found astounded me. After her round of metamorphosis-induced hysterics pass, Gregoria tries to use the bathroom. But to do this, she has to not only walk on four legs, but to basically relearn everything, which is something that I can’t ever remember seeing in a story such as this. After more or less growing accustomed to being a pony, Gregoria goes about trying to get back to her human form. And this is where things start to become a little more . . . complicated.

Gregoria decides to seek out an old friend, Rachel, because she is the only one whom she might be able to convince of her affliction, and from there, Gregoria’s experiences are interspersed with the POV’s of one Malus Crown, an eccentric billionaire who seems to have a mysterious connection to Gregoria. While Rachel and Gregoria try to figure out what’s happening, Malus is seeking out very specific individuals. And it all comes together splendidly. How these two are actually connected was utterly unexpected and left me with my mouth hanging open.

I.D. Isn't your run-of-the-mill human-wakes-up-to-find-that-they're-a-pony fic, it's a high-concept Science-Fiction novel. Reminiscent of Arthur C. Clarke or Philip K. Dick, Injector Doe explores an idea that is so far removed from traditional ideas of science and technology as to be almost fantasy, and it does so excellently.

If you're a fan of science-fiction, then this is a must read.

Congratulations, you've convinced me to add to my RiL list a 'human turns into a pony' story. For the first time ever.

And if I'm disappointed, it may well be the last time ever. :trixieshiftright:

What ze heck? I never recieved a notif that you commented on this blog! :pinkiegasp:

Weird. But There's two more 'human turns pony' stories that are on my RiL. I don'r know if they'll be good or not, but I have hope; from the outset, they both appear to have been quite positively received.
