FIMF update? · 11:32pm Oct 14th, 2014

Just logged in for the first time in, like, forever. Apparently, Knighty rolled out a major upgrade of the site while I was away. Has anyone else been having issues viewing their stories in "card mode?" (see screenshot at bottom)

In other news, I haven't been writing for a few months, because I have no computer. :( Mine died, and I can't afford another one.

Well, at least you're still alive.

...Is that ArchLinux?

It's good to hear from ya. Pity about the computer though. Need any spare parts?

Close. The computer I'm using now is a very old netbook that I'm borrowing from a friend. He said I could load any OS I wanted onto it, since it was completely clean when he lent it to me. So, I went with Lubuntu Linux (Ubuntu with the LXDE interface) for three reasons: it's free, it has lots of community support, and it's one of the very few operating systems that will run on a machine this old. The downside: it can't load Google Drive, and hence, any of the tools I use to write. It can't even run Gedit without slowing to a crawl. It took three minutes to load FIMF, and as I type this, entire lines of text appear at a time.

But who am I to complain about it? It is a free loaner, and I can check my email with it until I manage to get a job that pays enough for me to acquire a new computer.

No. What I need is a new computer, unfortunately. I can't mod the one I'm using, and the one that died was so old that most parts would be incompatible anyway.

I sent a message to knighty, but he never responded. :ajsleepy: The problem persists. I can't see what any story is until I click on it and go to the actual story page. No searching, no previewing. No tooltips or popups. Just blank squares.

Ah, okay. I could definitely tell it was some sort of Linux shell, but the pic is tiny, and the menu button looked a lot like this:

Well, at least you've got your necessities running. I wish you the best of luck on finding a good job.
