Jade Ring, DerpyCon South, and Pinkie Who · 4:34am Sep 24th, 2014
So over the weekend I attended a local convention called DerpyCon South. This is a (currently) small pony convention that turned me into a brony in the first place.
While at the convention I attended two panels about fanfiction run by a FiM Fiction writer known as Jade Ring. While the attendance of the panels was small (7-10 people) I could still feel the passion in Jade's voice as he talked about fanfiction being more than just senseless porn and being stories. Some good, some bad, some clean, some cloppy, but all stories in the end. I was very moved by this and filled with a fire to write.
He talked a bit about his own stories and how a lot of them fit into the same continuity. This got me to thinking about my own stories and how they really don't link to themselves or any other story. Granted I'm quite new to fanfiction, but that doesn't mean I can't try to make a story longer. With that I will confirm that I have started planing for more Pinkie Who. I cannot post anymore about this without being spoiler-y.
Jade also talked about writing what you know and not what you don't. I'm passionate about time travel and Doctor Who, my area is more towards that. Likewise, despite living within an hours drive my whole life, I don't know New Orleans enough to write a story about Maud Pie taking a visit. So with that I am cancelling that story. I will post the pieces of the next chapter I have, but it's over. The drive to write just isn't there and I don't know enough to really do it justice. I'm sorry to those disappointed.
My final bit of news is that I am currently writing a story. This is a story on it's own that is just here to keep me writing until I start writing for Pinkie Who or Doctor Whooves Rewind. It's a silly little story that a friend and I started writing one day and I took over. I can't promise anything really good, but it might be an entertaining read for a few of you out there.
I was at DCS too, and I also attended the panels by Jade Ring. It's cool to know that I met one of the people I follow, even if I didn't know it at the time.
