About Cover Art for Stories · 1:47am Sep 7th, 2014
There's always been one thing that has been bugging me for all this time, ever since I started writing stories here.
Is it always necessary to ask for permission to use pictures as cover art for stories? For some reason, I'm always very hesitant to use other people's works as cover art. Most of the time I try (and fail horribly) at making my own art, use whatever public domain pictures I can find, or just take out a specific screenshot from the show.
Have any of you ever run into a problem where the person who drew the art ever asked you to take it down? Or do you always ask permission to use the pictures?
Anyways, I wasn't able to find a charger for my laptop seeing as how the Goodwill nearby was closed for renovations
My laptop lasts for an hour on a full charge, and I need it for a class that lasts 90 minutes. That's just swell.
Nah, I don't usually ask to use coverart, I just usually link it in the description. It's worked for me thus far.
And that sucks.
2433591 Yeah, I'm going to see if I can get a spare battery from Amazon or something.
2433597 Seems to be a logical solution.
I mostly construct my cover art from vectors cut from the show, so all in all it would take Hasbro or DHX to have any real grounds for me removing the art, Or I get pieces of art that the artist says can be used as long as they are linked. I pretty much link the source anyway no matter what. If I am asked by an artist to remove something though I will do it... leaving a sad hole in my cover art situation. I really need to get my niece to start drawing my cover art. She is an amazing artist and... actually I think I will commission her to do the art for my next new story... yes!
Also I read your comment about amazon and buying a new battery. It is probably a good choice, because if your charger is still charging the battery it could be that the old battery is simply worn out.
2433696 True, except that the battery is really only a year old. My parents' laptop's battery is already three years running and it still gives them around 7.5 hours of charge at 100 percent.
Also, what program do you use with the vectors? And where do you find them?
2433724 Well that's just a bit crazy then.
I use Photoshop CS2 and I usually find them through a google image search of "[insert pony name here] vector" I did have some trouble at first and it may take some patience but it is worth it to have the feeling that you had your own hands in making your cover art.
