Occasional Insanity can be Very Refreshing · 8:11pm Aug 30th, 2014
In Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Ford Prefect says that he likes to save his sanity up, which means he goes crazy every once and a while for health purposes.
I very much agree with this practice. I do it myself every once and a while. Sanity is such a burden to bear sometimes. And it can sometimes stifle the creative process.
I lost a batch of files I was working on recently, so I lost a little progress. Thankfully I back up files like an obsessive, so I didn't lose too much, but still. A bit distressing. I got over this by writing random scenes from stories that don't exist yet during my lunch break at work. From these scenes I can glean the spirit of the story and extrapolate from there. If you get a good, solid concept, the stories sort of write themselves. For example, the creators of the Simpsons Movie said they came up with the concept that "Homer falls in love with a pig" and the movie sort of wrote itself from there.
Here are the concepts that found me this past two weeks while I was relaxing outside of sanity on my breaks at work.
1. Rainbow Dash lays an egg and leaves it in Golden Oaks library without telling Twilight.
2. The Mane Six have to 5150 Pinkie Pie because of hebephrenic schizophrenia.
3. Scootaloo and Apple Bloom invent motor sports.
4. Sweetie Belle is the last of the CMC to get her cutie mark.
5. Twilight's mother gets in trouble with Celestia for grave robbing.
6. Fluttershy punches Applejack in the butt and calls her a "meanie!"
7. Scootaloo grows up, gets a lot of piercings, a fillyfriend and a cat named Strato, and proceeds to make a perfect egg-salad sandwich.
8. Applejack vs. worms.
9. Chrysalis is a little teapot. OF DOOM! COWER BEFORE HER TEACUP MINIONS!
10. Spike gets scabies from a second-hoof tuba.
