About This Here Delays · 12:14pm Jun 11th, 2012

I'm not gonna lie, I'm having a bit of trouble carrying on Eris's Riddle. I'm certainly trying, and I'm setting aside time from my other projects to work on it, but the words aren't coming as easy as while writing Harmony's Wrath. Back in August, September, October last year, I'd sit down, write a whole chapter in a day, sleep on it, edit it the following morning, post it and move on to the next one. I was just really into the mood of the story, and was fascinated to see what would happen next. But now, I'm struggling to hit a chapter a week. I could blame tumblr as a source of procrastination, or having two other big projects that are eating creative effort, but another thing is that I'm just not feeling this story as much as I did Harmony's Wrath. The setting feels kind of stale, because the characters are for the most part, retreading old ground and reprising previous parts of the narrative. Harmony's Wrath had that sense of constantly being on the cusp of a revelation, chasing a new horizon through places you didn't know existed, even if they were right under your nose. And I don't feel like I've created that with Eris's Riddle. This could just be my neophilia talking, but aside from Trottingham and the parts with Discord, this story has felt rather hard to keep pulling.

I'm not looking for sympathy, or help, or kind words, I'm just venting. I'm not going to abandon this story, but I'm really not sure if I can pull another 35,000 words out of it (they're already on the evening of day 2, after all). I did have a third part of this series planned that was going to blow the whole thing wide open, but it just might not happen if I end up struggling through the rest of this.

But dammit, if nothing else, I'm going to try. Writer's block will not have me beaten so easily.

I'm loving the story so far. I love learning more about the history of Equestria, even if it's fanon. The action sequences are gripping, too. Usually, when I read fanfic, I skim over action sequences, but with yours, I've read every last word.
