How The Events Of Bioshock: Infinite's Burial At Sea - Episode 2 Were Just A Fabrication For Elizabeth's Grand Scheme · 2:05pm Aug 8th, 2014

If you didn't play Burial At Sea, I suggest you get out.

[Part 1 of 2]

Just finished the B@S dlc and scavenged many discussions for some trickle of hope that the Elizabeth we all know and love may still be alive. At last, I think I found something!

For those who want the TLDR version of my discovery:
The Elizabeth from Infinite survives the events of B@S by switching places with another Elizabeth during the ending sequence of ep. 1 and the duration of ep. 2. Why may this be true? JUST KEEP YOUR EYES ON HER PENDANT TO SEE WHAT I MEAN (sorry for the caps, just catching the attention of passive eyes).

Here's a short but more detailed version:
The Elizabeth from Infinite always wore the pendant we chose for her. She wears it every time we see her, up until the Final Baptism in Infinite. Since she survived the ending of Infinite, we see her in B@S, pendant and all. However, she doesn't have this pendant at the very end of B@S ep. 1 and for all of ep. 2. Given her powers, the Elizabeth from Infinite may have just pulled the same trick from Infinite's ending and brought another Elizabeth to Rapture to finish the job.

Remember, the Luteces gave our Elizabeth from Infinite the pendant; it's how they kept track of our Elizabeth.

Here's the details laid out for you:
First: the Elizabeth we all know and love from Infinite always wore the pendant Booker chose for her; it's how we denote (or label) her as 'our' Elizabeth, or Elizabeth 'Prime'. She's there when we go through the Sea of Doors, when Booker begins to recall his repressed memories, and right before we enter the Final Baptism. Before Booker goes through that last door, Elizabeth 'Prime' asks Booker if he is sure he wants to do this, to which he says yes and goes through. However, we never actually see Elizabeth Prime go through the last door with Booker; and the Elizabeths that are in the Final Baptism don't have the pendant at all (Booker notices this and says something like "Wait...who are you?"). So, Elizabeth Prime stays safe in the Sea of Doors, escaping the purge of all the realities where Booker and Comstock exist.

Second: We know this is true because Elizabeth Prime is the one who shows up and accompanies us in B@S ep 1 with memories of Infinite still intact. She wears the pendant throughout ep 1, regardless of having taken damage (even after the Big Daddy fight). However, in the ending sequence of ep 1, after Booker fights the Big Daddy and goes to retrieve Sally, we see the flashbacks that reveal to Booker who he really is. Afterwards, the camera pans up to Elizabeth, but we notice something different. This Elizabeth ISN'T wearing the pendant (there's just a red cloth). Sound familiar? This is similar to Infinite's ending sequence in that the Elizabeth we are seeing in the end doesn't have the pendant Booker chose for her in Infinite. It's never shown that she took it off or lost it; and if she did, she should have said something about it. In other words, this may be a hint that the Elizabeth at the end of B@S ep 1 ISN'T Elizabeth Prime.

Third: Elizabeth Prime's powers allow her to use tears to bring over things from other realities. She may also be able to bring people over. Perhaps other Elizabeths. In this sense, Elizabeth Prime may have simply brought over another Elizabeth to Rapture during the ending sequence of ep 1 to finish the job, allowing Elizabeth Prime to once again escape to the Sea of Doors and ensure that the outcome she desired was accomplished.

[Part 2 of 2]

So then, who is the Elizabeth that Elizabeth 'Prime' brought over? None other than the Elizabeth who was in Booker-Comstock's memory of his failed kidnapping; the one we see shouting at Booker-Comstock to let go of the infant Anna before she gets decapitated. Let's call this Elizabeth as "'Liz Beta".

'Liz Beta is the one who Elizabeth Prime brings over to Rapture during the final sequence of B@S ep 1. Why? Because 'Liz Beta was there to witness the horrific result of Booker-Comstock's kidnapping of Anna; she has every reason to get revenge on this Booker-Comstock. Need more proof? Look at the cut-scene of the failed kidnapping and see that 'Liz Beta mimics the same movements in the memories and back in Rapture. 'Liz Beta still remembers and expresses her disgust in Booker-Comstock afterwards.

Remember, this 'Liz Beta can travel through tears as Elizabeth Prime (hence her appearance in Booker-Comstock's failed kidnapping). She may have been just a omnipotent and could have similarly lost her powers in returning to a reality where she had already died (hence the mortality she gains in B@S ep.2). 'Liz Beta's mind even attempts to make new memories to cope with existing in the Rapture reality, perhaps adopting the memories similar to Elizabeth Prime. However, she does not have a pendant. Maybe the Luteces never gave THIS Elizabeth a pendant in order to keep track of which Elizabeth was Elizabeth Prime.

So why didn't Elizabeth Prime just put 'Liz Beta in Rapture since the beginning? Could she had just popped a cap into Booker-Comstock's head immediately arriving in Rapture and been done with it? No, because Elizabeth Prime had something bigger in mind.

Remember, Elizabeth Prime said that all the doors lead to the same outcome of violence and exploitation. In order to break this cycle, she found a way via the events of Bioshock 1. To do this, she needed to accomplish the events of B@S ep. 2. Hence, 'Liz Beta's involvement. Elizabeth Prime, being the intelligent person that she is, may have hit two birds with one stone in bringing 'Liz Beta over to finish the job. 'Liz Beta gets her revenge and Elizabeth Prime completes her plan of breaking the cycle of violence without getting directly involved.

So, 'Liz Beta is the one who we play as in B@S ep 2, and the one who ultimately sacrifices herself to ensure the events of the first Bioshock. All this happens while Elizabeth Prime safely returns once again to the Sea of Doors in order to make sure the plan works.

Final Verdict: Elizabeth Prime is alive and well in the Sea of Doors. It was all just another switcheroo.

For those who say it was just a design flaw by the developers: that's a pretty significant design flaw to have overlooked. The pendant is such an integral part of the story too. How come such a design flaw wasn't brought up with the Elizabeths in Infinite's ending? >:D

Anyways, this is my two cents. Peace out.

Someone else wrote this, I just copied it to show you that Elizabeth is still alive.

The pendant has nothing to do with anything, it's how you interpret this.

And yes, one Elizabeth is still alive. She did enter the final baptism with Booker, because at the ver y end of the main campaign, she and along two other Elizabeths are present, and then those two other Elizabeths (which are the ones from Burial at Sea) disappear. It all revolves around the multiverse theory.

In one universe, Booker decided to accept the baptism, therefore, becoming Comstock and revealing the events of Infinite.

In another universe, Booker decided not to accept the baptism, therefore, still being Booker. This unfolds the main events in Infinite too. The debt that the Luteces kept mentioning was Booker's sadness that he went through after he lost Elizabeth in one universe. Get it.

In the universe in which Booker becomes Comstock, he becomes sterile, and cannot have any kids with Lady Comstock. He hires the Luteces to open a tear. This is where we can see when Booker fights Anna (which is Elizabeth) over Comstock (of the other universe).

Let's wait there. Up to now, we have a probability of there being two universes. In the universe that Booker didn't accept baptism and remains as Booker, there was still the possibility of him losing Anna over a gambling. We later see this scene in the game when his whole office is a wreck. He spent various years lamenting the lost of her child, which in turn, the Luteces offered to help him.

Continuing with the other universe (the one where the original Booker and Comstock were fighting over Anna). Okay so here's when things get cheesy. In that universe, there's also the possibility that Anna dies or lives. Hence the Luteces' saying, "Lives, Lived, Will Live Dies, Died, Will Die." In the one in which she dies, her head is cut off from the tear, this resulting in Booker ALSO lamenting her death in the office for multiple years (this getting the Luteces to offer his help to get revenge on Comstock.). And in the one she lives, only her finger is cut off, further deploying the main campaign of Infinite.
In the one she lives, we already know what happens. Elizabeth is jailed in a tower for the rest of her life, ect.
In the one she dies, however... Comstock now laments for what he did, asks the Luteces for a far away place to forget all of he did, and this is where Rapture comes along.

Yadda yadda more explanations about Burial at Sea episodes later...

Major spoilers ahead:
We get to the end of the second episode, in which Atlas kills Elizabeth. Elizabeth was the guilty one of creating the whole big daddy fad in Rapture, thus making little sisters, and then the downfall of the same place. She was the responsible one of getting the Ace in The Hole for Atlas, codifying it and later giving the phrase to him. This is where Bioshock 1 starts with Jack. It's funny because, this is whole connected.
In B1, Jack is a genetical baby made by Andrew Ryan, which is sent to the outwards to continue his life. Jack later comes back to Rapture, or tries to when he has a letter in a package saying "Would you kindly...." Since he was coded to be triggered whenever that phrase was said, he hijacked the plane, crashed it, ect..

Man, gotta love the Bioshock series.

Sorry, skipped your blog completely because I never played it before and if I do it won't be for a while :derpytongue2:

Good points, bro. I am quite surprised you went all this effort just to explain in from a different perspective. I probably wouldn't have, man, gotta love the series is right. Even after all that happened there is still so much Ken Levine left for open-interpretation and I kind of wished he didn't. Don't get wrong I enjoy my share of mystery and the unknown , but for a person who already felt sadden by the way Rapture fell, I wish this new story wasn't so 'harsh' like the first game.

Bioshock 2 is probably the one I don't nearly care as much for.

Nigga you'd better play it. :pinkiecrazy:

Cold Blitz! Do you love you're average dose of Bioshock? Can I, if you will, perhaps offer you an idea in exchange for feedback?
