    An important message

    I'm a bit of a fuck up.

Why did it take so long? I hated everything I wrote, and the more that I wrote the more that I hated it. It really wasn't good, and I didn't want anyone to see it. So I took a break and wrote different things and started and finished small projects, and here it is.

    Next Chapter

So, what do you get when you mixed exams, writers block, and a blue screen of death?

    A late chapter.

    Update later today.

    Still alive

Wow, okay. So a lot of things happened and in essence are still happening in my life. It’s pretty situational/personal so I won’t get into detail, because you know, anonymity and all that. However, I am glad to say that the next chapter is finished, edited and after its final sleep-on-it-edit should be up by tomorrow/this evening. So, yay :yay:. And finally in closing, some Canadian

    Looking for Feedback on Tags.

Currently, Dawn of the Vanguard is tagged with Dark, Gore, Alternate Universe and Human. I want (need) to keep the tags Alternate Universe and Human for obvious reasons, but lately I've been thinking of removing Dark or Gore and replacing it with Adventure.

    Updates and Lessons

Gather 'round the campfire as I tell you the story about why there was such a large delay to this update.

Simply put, I spent way too much time on an idea that went absolutely nowhere.

so do the humans got a few safe havens or plans to turn to hide/protect there species from certain doom In case of angry ponies etc? sorry if random asks there just trying to figure out things a bit like what the culture like in mind set it sound like there very smart but careful cause of circumstances. I guess they don't get to explore much due to possible risk of discovery?

2335830

For your first question the safe havens that humans have are the Seven Great, and very well hidden, Cities that they have built. Each city is completely self sufficient and can be completely shut off from the outside world. If something bad happens, like a pony invasion, every city will keep their 'doors' open for a short period of time to allow anyone who lives outside a safe place to hideout. Example: People who live in Dyffryn Valley would either excavated to Dissimulare or Aria.

As for your second question humans pretty much stayed on Standing Refuge due to the fear of being found. The farthest that anyone has gone is a few miles out into the Eastern Sea, and that was in a sub deep underwater.

2336264 wow I love little details like this~! hmm thought just now Im guessing the people of his home are in evacuating to a city now in paranoia cause twilight and co are closes to cause a panic?
sorry if this sound annoying I would ask more about culture and history of there im really curious it sound tough for them ponies we know the usually story! but I can wait I know from the world building your doing there history alone it gonna be a dozy and complex! like the ponies and there friendship and innocent it just sound like a big 360 turning from cruel to kind almost sound like magic was in work there dark side and the attempted to hide that history send a chill cause it might sound like they still might be capable of doing some awful things.
to much wishing here I just hope are main character doesn't fall to there forced sway to soon and be friends cause way I see it being friends with the enemy is scary and dangerous never know if your safe have to guard your back or you be dead no matter how nice they are that gonna be hurdle on his part.

2336357

If you're guessing that when everyone who didn't live in a Great City saw the news that ponies were invading dropped everything and ran, you are right.

Also everyone is in a bit of a panic now because they know ponies are on Standing Refuge and because every Great City went into complete lock down. Keep in mind that the Great Cities haven't been in complete lock down in a long time.

So Twi kidnapped Zachary betraying her friend's trust and his trust wow talk about a crazy bitch

2336403

In one way yes, Twilight is a crazy bitch.

In another way, she is doing everything she can to protect her friends and Equestria as a whole. Many if not all of the battles Twilight has fought went like this:

Find out about enemy -> fight enemy -> stop/seal/relocate/kill enemy -> have party to celebrate enemies defeat.

Remember the idea that Discord could even be rehabilitated came from Celestia and was reinforced by Fluttershy.

Twilight has experienced and believes she lives in a very black and white world. What is good will always be good. What is evil will always be evil. The very possibility that things and situations can change does not even exist within what she believes the world to be.

Twilight is not crazy, she's just ignorant and in the past has had loved ones be under mind control. Which, mind you, is not an good excuse for what she is doing.

What is the tech level of the Humans in this story because it seems very advanced compared to the Ponies because they have submarines they have mentioned miniguns and when Zachary was going to explode they said he was going nuclear so does that mean they also have nuclear bombs because if they do in case a war does happen the ponies are so unbelievably screwed its not funny

2336500 you have a point. She does live in a very Black and White world

2336544

To describe the tech level of the humans think if all the countries today put away their differences to fight together against one common enemy, then infuse their weapons with runes magic.

And for nukes yes the humans do have the technology to make them and have made them before, but no they will not use them. At least not willingly. Nukes have been outlawed after one test left one of the very few islands that was completely safe for agriculture a smoking and unusable crater.

2336667 outlawed or not they seem to be so terrified of the Ponies that they would use them the second they know the exact location of a Pony city

2336690

That same fear is the reason why they won't use nuclear weapons. If they nuke a city they better be damned sure they kill every last alicorn and any other powerful pony in the blast. It's one thing to fight a powerful enemy that dislikes/distrusts you, it's another thing entirely to fight an enemy that hates you, wants vengeance for lives lost and has control over the sun/tides/hearts of people/very powerful magic.

If it was guaranteed that blowing up a certain city would kill everyone who could retaliate against them, they would nuke that city down to its bedrock.

But it's not so they won't.

Ok i have another question how does Twilight think she's going to keep the fact she Rainbow and Applejack tricked, drugged and kidnapped Zachary a secret from Fluttershy and the others is Twilight planning on concealing Zachary's unconscious body somewhere until its time to leave or does she plan to leave right now leaving Fluttershy and the others stuck on the island

Question:
I know it's a little bit late to be asking this, but why would the humans send Zachary as a distraction/attempt at appeasement?
Any military leader worth their salt would have known that 6000 years is a long enough time for significant adaptation and evolution, making a lot of any previous knowledge ponies had about humans (especially regarding weaknesses) useless. Regardless of Zach being a distraction, they are giving ponies the perfect opportunity to examine a human body in depth. They are giving the key to their own destruction to the enemy. Even if the human spies get enough info to counter this, they are getting at best a stalemate. At worst (if they wait too long to attack), they are condemning themselves to defeat. Humans may have superior weapons, but strategy has always trumped tactics in times of war. Humans don't know that ponies haven't maintained a military outside of what is essentially a national guard, which is void of any known strategic geniuses (this is of course ignoring that "Pony Illuminati" you introduced in the scene with Luna holding court).
Why would they take that kind of a risk? It seems like something the good ol' cap would have called out and proclaimed as the single dumbest action the humans could take.

Edit: If your response is basically "Well I needed a way to advance the story in a specific direction." or "Well calling BS on that and skipping straight to war or a one-sided espionage arc wouldn't be as good or fun of a story." Then that's absolutely fine. Plenty of famous books and movies have done a lot worse or done even more crazy things to advance the story. And you know what? They still turned out great. I'm a big fan of your story, and I'm always thrilled when an update comes out.

2337226

She plans on keeping him concealed and then interrogating him when he wakes up, and hopes that Fluttershy, Rarity and Pinkie Pie don't find them in the spot she has laid out. Remember Twilight doesn't make the best decisions under stress.

2337257

Well you caught me on two out of the three accounts.

1.) I needed the story to go in that direction for reasons I won't state here because spoilers make angels cry.

2.) I wanted the story to go in that direction because going straight to a war/espionage arc would be, personally, beyond boring to write. To put into perspective how much I try to avoid boring take in to this. What you're reading now is basically my fourth rewrite of the original idea I had for this story. I scraped the first three because they bored the hell out of me. Seriously, the first story line I had included the humans forgiving the ponies for everything and the two races being friends right off the bat. Thank whoever may be listening that I scraped that idea.

3.) Zachary is from the Wild Magic class and under the explosion type. His most prominent and dangerous ability is his ability to completely self-destruct. The ponies will not be able to examine his body. Before you ask making a controlled explosion takes time and concentration, just exploding is like flipping a switch. Example: When Zachary was shocked awake he instantly blew a hole through his barrack's roof.

It's just Zachary's bad luck that he is the perfect candidate for this mission. If he wasn't his leaders would have chosen a different path.
