Biography: Vinyl Scratch

Also known as DJ Pon3, though she has lately tired of this identity, Vinyl Scratch is a unicorn, originally hailing from Marenassas, an independent city between the boarders of Manehattan and Canterlot provinces. Though she lists Manehattan as her home town. Vinyl Scratch was born to unloving parents. her father constantly moved them around Equestria due to his inability to maintain a job. Upon arriving in Manehattan, Vinyl ran away from home with the intention of making her own way in the world. Her life soon became filled with poor choices and bad people when she was roped into dealing drugs for a greedy Diamond Dog called Trigger, living on roughly ten pence of every bit she made. She had somewhat of an aptitude for singing, and often times, city ponies would seek her out, not to buy drugs, but to listen to her sing songs by her favourite lounge singer, Pips Domino, and tip her very well for it.

While skilled at singing, it was not enough to net her a cutie mark. However, that quickly changed when Vinyl witnessed the Sonic Rainboom preformed by Rainbow Dash at Cloudsdale, she was inspired and began writing her own music, gaining her Cutie Mark of a barred quaver, completely unaware, even to this day, that her future friend had been the cause of the event to gain her Cutie Mark.

Vinyl Scratch spent the next several years nose deep in books on composing, often times taking the entire music section of the Manehattan Library with her. This was where she met her best friend, Octavia, who naturally bonded over their love of music.

Vinyl became interested in techno music, and began working on a routine, after spending months looking for a gig, she landed one as the opening act at one of Manehattan's prestigious nightclubs, Octavia, while thinking that Vinyl's talents were being wasted on "a low form of music, just a fad that'll die out just as quickly as it began" was oddly supportive, and gifted to the unicorn mare a pair of violet lensed goggles, which became her signature accessory, rarely, if ever, taking them off for more than a few minutes at a time. Octavia would joke that she regretted giving them to her and that she created a monster for encouraging such improper behaviour. How eerily accurate that she had been. Vinyl's fan base and popularity grew exponentially overnight, and her life entered a slow downward spiral of alcohol, drugs, and sex with mares and/or stallions whose names she didn't even bother to ask.

Vinyl and Octavia had a falling out over her drug use, prompting Vinyl to eventually get clean. She decided to travel north at the insistence of a strange black earth pony ( which turned out to be none other than Nightcaller of the Siblings Nightmare) where she would cross paths with Rainbow Dash, the pony that unwittingly caused her to get her Cutie Mark, and Twilight Sparkle. The rest, as one would say, was history.

Vinyl Scratch is witty, playful, always wearing a smile on her face, and is incredibly nonchallant towards subjects (like sexuality) that other ponies might be shy towards. She constantly spouts non sequiturs, and doesn't allow anything to bother her. When insulted, or has a joke tossed at her, she instantly finds a way to toss it right back at them. Much to the annoyance of friend and foe alike. She prides herself on being a loyal friend in order to make up for her past, and is more than ready to sacrifice herself for her friends at a moment's notice.
