To all my readers. · 6:34am Jul 27th, 2014
Good 1:11 AM, everyone.
As you probably know, having clicked that star on the top right corner of a chapter of A Kindred Spirit or being so wowed by my mediocre mental regurgitations as to have actually begun following me, I have been less that true to my promises of quick updates.
I'm sorry. But I can't unintentionally lie anymore. These updates probably will be slow.
To be honest, I may actually more upset about this than you are, but it's simply a truth I can't deny. But I want to tell you part of the reason why.
The original updates of AKS were quick, when I was zealous and a newcomer to the fandom. I was an inexperienced writer and didn't know what was good and what wasn't when it came to the fics out there. And now, after some veterancy, I can tell you, AKS really...wasn't. Cliched, weak imagery, poor pacing and character development. A weak story.
I couldn't bear to leave it that way.
Yes, my updates are infrequent, and slow. The thing is... it might just be better like that.
Early on, I would write what came on a whim, failing to elaborate, develop, and view critically. Now, I mull over ideas, consider them, what influence they may have in the long run, and if actions fit a character. It's slower, but it's more developed.
And that's why I'm posting this. I don't want to make the same mistakes I did in the past; quantity over quality, despite intentions. I want to take this story, like a chunk of silver ore, with all its potential, put it through the scrutiny of the editing furnace, and cast, refine, work it into something beautiful. I've got all these ideas, and I need to stick the presentation to bring you into the hearts and minds of the characters, and, like every smith, leave a little bit of a distinct style in the product, something unique.
Yes, the updates are slow. (I'm probably harder on myself about this than any of you, truly.) But if you read the chapters now, and think of what they were back when they were first written, aren't they orders of magnitude better?
Thanks for your time.

(1:36 AM) edit: I'm not really too familiar with the old-style way of making wares from silver, so there's likely skipped or incorrect processes I put up there.
also chapter 3 is nearly done being edited. Probably the most atrocious chapter will be something I can be proud of soon.
