...that starts off as one thing inspired by something, but then grows into something that mixes in a number of other things as well?
That's what I've got at the moment and it's why I probably won't get Chapter 3 of The Lost Element out for a while.
You see for a while I've been mucking with ideas about dragons being brought to Earth, mostly recently due to a DNA/RNA recombinant retrovirus. Not too much of a problem on its own, but I've been getting bugged by a plot bunny -- really need to do some extermination on the little pests -- about a My Little Dashie type idea but going for a group of ponies and going for a focus character that isn't on his way down and out, but has a decent life before he meets the ponies. Put them together with a few bits of The Changing Bureau and some Fireborn and... well, things are likely going to get interesting when the fic really kicks in.
Yeah, this is the fic I mentioned in the last blog post. It's got most of 5K words as stands and that's in three scenes for chapter 1.
Without revealing too many details of the plot for the fic in question, the focus character has a family of his own already and owns some equines, he lives in the UK since it's another change of scene, and he's in a decent financial position, not too worried about losing or having lost people near to him. Then the fillies show up, mostly pegasi, but with a certain unicorn in the mix as well. Now, I'm not going the My Little Dashie route entirely, but there are things that will echo that in some areas, likewise there will be elements of other things that show up which I'm not going to reveal in their entirety. Long story short, what I've got in my head is and isn't similar to a combination of My Little Dashie, Changing Bureau and Fireborn, the last because I'm more comfortable writing dragons than ponies, though that won't affect things for a while.

I'll get there, I need to figure out what I'm having the girls do during the second day before I start writing it though. I've got a few ideas I want to weave in, but where and when they'll show up I don't know yet. With any luck I'll have a start during this week, and probably get the some other stuff written out as well.
