Chapter three of Euphrosyne Unchained is up. · 2:51am Oct 4th, 2011

I had a moment of unhappy last night, mostly centered around the issue of popularity. Everyone wants to be popular, successful by some metric or another, or so it seems, and I have been no different in my life.

I'm trying to change that.

I did a lot of different creative works before coming here. And by the criteria of Man, which is wealth and attention-share, I have been pretty much a failure. Such a viewpoint tends to make a person overly proud, and overly dashed, when that pride is unsupported.

There is one reason I am here, writing fanfiction. Fanfiction OF fanfiction, in fact (Thank you Blaze, whoever you are, for the magic that is the Conversion Bureau universe). And that reason is simple: it makes me happy.

That is what My Little Pony gives me in the first place - a feeling of innocent happiness. But it also gives me a window into an impossible heaven infinitely more desirable than earthly life, and the Conversion Bureau universe lets me pretend the double impossibility of somehow, actually, becoming part of such a realm.

And what grounds it, and elevates it, is the hard-edged contrast between a future, but sooooo realistic earth, and the seduction of the Poniverse.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if it could actually be?

Doesn't it burn like searing fire that we are forever trapped in our very non-magical, non-cartoon world of mortality, hunger, and ruthless greed?

Damn.

That was the main draw for most of the spin-offs when The Conversion Bureau was first posted. It's a literary bridge between ponies and humans, a vehicle for stories to take place without having to resort to "Twilight botched another spell... AGAIN." I can always see so many stories that can come out of such a world... not necessarily just the self-insert wish-fulfillment stories, but other stories, mostly just the aforementioned human/pony interaction should the two races share the same world. But still. There is still part of me that wants to write 'that' story.
