Anime Reviews by Tripl3M: Mind Fucks (involves Spoilers... Duh-ish) · 11:13pm Jun 25th, 2014
Hello people,
I was thinking about talkjng about this subject in a week or two, when I need to give my opinion on the spring season, but this is too big of a subject of it's own.
I am pretty sure everyone here has experienced a mind fuck or a huge plot twist that came out of nowhere, like animes like My-Hime, Madoka (Yes I dislike Madoka, but it's still a good anime.), Nanoha, Cardcaptor Sakura, Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne
(Wow the amount of plot twist in Magical Girl animes is insane..) , Paranioa Agents. Good example for for Life Action Shows would be Lost or Dexter.
But rather than to talk about these plot twists in general, I am going to give my thoughts on two specific animes.
One is Samurai Flamenco and the other is Kanojo ga Furagu o Oraretara.
Now both animes are great in their respectiv theme. SF being a story about idol vigilanties and Kanojo about the MC who can see flags like Love Flags, Death Flags, H Flags. You know that stuff they always talk about when the subject of Galgames comes up.
Anyhow both animes had a quite big mind fuck during their individuell run.
SF around the 6 or 7 episode and Flags in the 10th.
So what makes these special? Nothing really, like normal big plot twist they lead the story into a new direction and set the ton for it, but the execution is a lot different.
SF had a very slow start, picked up it's pace after the episode in question. Unlike Flags, which ruined it's own theme and ton trying to attempt the switch.
Now to talk the actual part in question, SF it's the end of Episode 6. Remember this is a anime about young Idols dressing up and beating the crap out of small time thieves, well it was that, a anime were no one really gets hurt... Until the giutine gorillas appears in the last 1,5 minutes of that episode, chops off some heads and dies and the appearence of King Death (or what the name was). Within 90 seconds the entire theme of the anime changed extermly and it continued good with it.
Flags on the other hand tried to pull a quick one on us in form of that the world the MC lives in "isn't real", because everything is just a "simulation". The Problem here is mainly this simple fact destroys the entire reason for the previous 9 episodes. There is absolutly no reason for them to have happened, because they don't really hold too much importance now. Another problem with this plot twist is the switch from a pretty fun harem anime to a action anime in the last two episodes. The lastest episode was a attemt to fill me up on the information that they just now realeased but the entire real world and sadly it's not good. I don't even understand the reason for these virtual worlds in the first place (ok I do, but I mean why are they even there, if they're the problem? Seriously, did they never hear of a singularity?).
I only wonder where this story made sense for the author because it's not that suprising since the episode were it the start of the twist happens just feels out of place for the anime anyway already. The reason why I was wondering whether I should wait a week is that Flags' final episode hasn't aired yet, but that thing doesn't have enough time to explain everything that still misses.
Anyway, what are your favorite huge plot twist or similar?
What kind of plots would you like to see twisted?
Do you think Twist's plot already has been turned?
