The Confusion is Resolved · 11:13pm Jun 2nd, 2012
I didn't really expand upon the title of the last one, but the reason for it was because I had actually read these 2 fics before I'd gotten around to reading the source material. Mostly for lack of caring, but also because they and others like them provided their own stories, making the source material moot as they continued on in the spirit of the original, rather than the letter. However, I was inspired recently to read it, as I felt it was an experience which I was sorely lacking. However, that has led me in a direction which brings me back to the root of my fandom, as this was one of my very first fanfics ever read on fimfiction and was one of the first big pushes towards my becoming a member here.
The story concepts are very simple, but equally thought-provoking. Simple question such as "Why?" and "What would really happen?" are question we ask ourselves every time we write a fantasy or a science fiction story. We ask these questions, but so many of us have overly optimistic views, which I have been guilty of. These stories bring a slightly more realistic ideal to the questions, as "Why?" analyzes the psychological aspect of TCB, while WWRH analyzes the physical and societal effects. As a matter of fact, I don't know if I've mentioned this yet, but I'll do so again, these two stories were the inspiration for my own story which is in progress. The idea that everyone took it far too lightly invaded my mind, and spawned a story. There's not much more to reveal, really, so I'll leave with a quick sum up. WWRH features a television news report as a framing device for the story telling as it tells the story of, well, how it would really happen.
"Why?" follows the main character as he goes through the ponification camp process, while addressing a few societal preconceptions, however minor, while creating a story that, complete as it is, I wish could have continued.
For now, however, I will have to leave it at that. To find out more, you'll have to read the stories in all of their glory. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did! Next review, I do a mailbag, in which I address three stories and their writers that I think deserve a little recognition.
