Okay, okay, I'm having a little trouble getting over something here on FIMfic. Every time I log in, there seems to be a new story that either has rape, sex, or other clop-able themes to them. I didn't realize this when I signed up and began submitting. Is this...is this normal? New clopfiction on a daily - almost hourly - basis?
I had no idea this website took in such a vast amount of mature content. But what's more disquieting is the fact that I'm a part of the culture that's writing the stuff. And, god help me, the culture that seems to fantasize sexually about the fandom's characters.
Don't get me wrong, I'm no child. I know all about rule 34 - if it exists, there is porn of it, no exceptions. I just didn't expect to join a site that partook in it so...openly. I'm hesitant to read stories that catch my eye, because I end up looking at the tags and seeing one of the explicit tags listed. I've passed up several stories that looked promising because of this. Which is a little unfair, I know, because there's a chance that the stories will use the tags in a serious and mature sense, rather than the "let's masturbate to technicolor quadrupeds because it's the internet" sense.
I pride myself in keeping an open mind, but this...eh, I can't wrap my head around it.

... Welcome to ponies! Yeah, this is something you'll see here on fimfiction. Um. Lemme just say, if you don't like it, probably best you just ignore it. Clop isn't something that's gonna go away, really. And honestly, it's probably because the source material is about technicolor quadrupeds that this kind of stuff is posted so regularly. Everything in canon is so kind and loving and fluffy and sweet, so of course we want to corrupt it with sex and violence and mature themes. The beauty of a thing so pure is that it leaves much leeway to be creative in its eventual corruption.
144522 I'm already at peace in that this particular avenue of the fandom will always be present. You can't have life without sex, and lets face it, people are fascinated by sex. But yes, one of my general rules is that I will never read or write any sexually explicit material on a fandom for which I write. That means I'll never read a clopfiction, and you'll never see me writing one. It's just one of my morals.
And yes, I've already gotten my hands dirty on the whole corrupting the canon with more mature themes (see chapters two, three, five, and ten of RwR [and eventually chapters thirteen and fourteen]). Still, I like to think I do it in a more tasteful way, fashioned so you appreciate the finer details rather than the blanket idea behind the scene.

submitted before I was done!
They say that absolute power corrupts absolutely (and rocks absolutely), and this is truth. What they don't say is that absolute purity corrupts with impunity.
In laymans terms, when something pure becomes corrupted, it corrupts hard.

Let it not be said that some of the more questionable stories are not good, however. I've read my fair share of questionable fiction in my time, and the few bits I've read concerning ponies is usually better in comparison. From a literary standpoint, I mean!
144565 As I said, I do think it's unfair that I'll avoid the stories that are tagged in such a way. Because I know that, somewhere within the mess of debauchery, there's a shining example of how a mature-oriented story can be done tastefully. I just don't bother with them, and it's not fair to the author, but I'd rather not risk it.
If you have any that you'd like to recommend, I'd appreciate it. But hey, it's not vital right now.

Well, if you want recommendations, I highly suggest anything by TAW. TAW is freaking awesome at writing, but he usually only writes clop.
And if his stories get into the really weird shit, it's usually played off as comedy, rather than seriously playing to obscure fetishes. Like one of his stories involves the library being filled with chocolate pudding. You'd think things were really squicky, but the way it's played off is absolutely hilarious. He writes about sex, but at the same time he does it in a way such that the story doesn't take itself too seriously, if you get what I'm saying.
144606 I believe I've heard of TAW before. He's got some TwiDash story up somewhere, right? I'll give him a look and see how things play out. Thanks.

Actually, yeah, the prequel to his current twidash story is the one I was talking about. Said Twidash story is also one of my favorite stories of those I'm currently tracking. It's got clop, but he's really trying to add some substance to the story. Helps that it involves my pony OTP, but It's good enough that I'd read it even without the Twidash.
Hmm you know you can tun off 'View mature' so that you don't see the clop/gore fics? Would be a great way to avoid and have bad feelings about not giving a chance to said author!
145661 Not all Mature-rated fics are tagged as such. At least I hope not. I'll happily read a mature-rated adventure story if it's done seriously and tastefully. Besides, it takes no effort on my part to simply skim over the fics that are rated for sex.
146231
Yeah ,sometimes people make mature rating because of enorm use of vulgar language ,but that's more teen ,though some people want to be sure.
146239 If they're honest in their descriptions, then I'll be able to partake or pass without feeling guilty.
I'm trying to uphold the standards in what I read in real life. Books from Stephen King, Eoin Colfer, and Deen Koontz tend to fill my bookshelf, so my standards are higher than some other folks in my town.

I don't know any of the three authors ,sorry.
The authors of the books I have the most are : J. K. Rowling ;Christopher Paolini; Roderick Gordon&Brian Williams .
