On the Grammar of Publishing Houses · 5:52pm Apr 1st, 2014
I was in the store the other day and came across a book next to the checkout lane. There was a DVD of the same title next to it, but I couldn't be sure if the book inspired the movie or vice versa.
Anyway, I decided to flip open to a random page to count grammatical errors... and counted 5 commas missing. It was only a quick skim, and I'm certain I would have found more if I gave the novel any serious moment of my time, so I averaged this number on a per-page basis. These pages held maybe 100 words per page, and they had that many errors.
If a published book can have that many, why are publishing houses such sticklers for grammar at all? We spend days meticulously combing our novels for errors and misplaced words, yet I find a book like this published? It confounds me.
In other news, the report for "Letters to Ponyville" is taking longer than I suspected. As I haven't received any letters to add, I feel my interest waning with equal measure. So please, if anyone feels up to writing a letter, do so. This is a story I'd very much like to see completed, but it is only as fun as the letters I receive. To keep the story from falling to the wayside, I'll be writing a letter to post at some point. I don't know if it will be an OC or a character from the show, but I'll have an idea when I get to penning it.
I'm aware of the patience you all have shown towards my other stories as well. Rest assured, they aren't forgotten. I recently published a new chapter of "As My World Burns", and plan to do one for "The Human" shortly.
