March State of the Author · 3:14am Apr 1st, 2014
Here we are at the end of the month. I suppose that means it's time to address all (two) of the people who care.
The Stories
First of all let's get the big one out of the way. I'm keeping up my proud tradition of uploading only one chapter a month for the Monster that is Me, and I hate myself for it. Chapter 13 is not a long chapter (by the standards that I've been keeping lately), but it's a lot of dialogue between ponies that haven't had a lot of exposure as of yet. After that, I think I'm going to go back through the story and edit all the parts that need editing
Then there's some bad news. I have officially decided to drop Equestrian Ninja as a pony story. It's something that's been coming for a long while. Writing has always been one of the only (constructive) things I've ever been good at, and writing more than one story that I will likely never make money off of due to copyright reasons seems counterproductive. It's a shame because the world MLP gives me is ripe with potential.
Let me explain for posterity. The Adventures of an Equestrian Ninja was a about a mare named Firecracker/Cherry Bomb. Several years before the beginning of the story she finds herself the owner of a cursed sword that strikes her with wanderlust. Finding that she can only stay in one place for several weeks at a time before being driven insane, she must use her wits and her fighting skills to solve whatever problems she's faced with at her current location before she's pressured into moving on. This gives me a wide variety of settings and possible plots and an excuse to subtly shift genres between episodes while keeping everything tied together (think Doctor Who, but with ponies). the first episode was going to take place in Appleloosa, while the second episode was going to take place in Manehattan. This is a complete tonal shift that's really only possible without explanation in the universe of MLP where cities made of crystal exist alongside old western towns.
I'll probably salvage this as another story in an original universe (I'm thinking of adding steampunk to the mix as well) starring good old mankind (*sarcastic WHOO*).
