Steel's Advertisements: Time Enough For Sisters · 4:34pm Mar 12th, 2014
AKA: Time Travel Done Right
Greetings, ladies and germs, to another instance of Steel's Sell-Outs! I mean, Advertisements. Today, I bring to you all a story that has left me pretty well dumbstruck by how it was written. This story, my friends, is this:
Now, I know what you're thinking. "But Steel, this title sounds horrendously cloppy! Whatever could you be doing advertising this pile of sensual nonsense?!"
And you'd be right, my very well-educated and strangely posh viewer! I don't advertise clop. But this isn't clop. This is actually a very well-written exploration into the concepts of time travel as described in canon. It also explores the relations between Equestria and other locations, and even the development of a spell that isn't created by Twilight Sparkle! Just innovation after innovation.
But enough condescension, to be perfectly honest, this story floored me. Its pacing is beautifully managed, with a very smooth flow from scene to scene, even if the entire story really only amounts to three or four 'scenes' in total. It's a wonderful exploration in time travel, its effects on the past and future, how paradoxes are handled, and even a valid description of the time stream itself. Not to mention, it's also a first-person POV. That really shocked me; a first-person POV story that explores time travel? Not just that, but the main character is Rarity of all ponies!
But she sounds exactly how she would from the show; posh, delicate, refined, but not without her own condescension and flaws in focus and wants. She focuses on her art, regards her dresses like masterpieces, and the fashion actually described in the story sounds like what she'd really make in her line of work. That's a shocker, ain't it? The dresses actually look good in my head, and they're so simply described, but the word choice invokes powerful imagery, at least for me.
In the end, the story closes magnificently, tying up all its loose ends into a fine little bow on the gift of this story. You all owe it to yourselves to experience this story, and I promise you, it will not disappoint.
Now go on, readers! Enjoy this story!
