Equestria Girls

given a 6.5 out of 10 stars

seen by many as "a huge error in judgement made by business men as opposed to the creative minds that made the show great"

seen by feminists as a film that " dangerously deviates from the message of the original show"

the toys which it spawned
seen as reminiscent of the bratz dolls
foot binding message.

"there is nothing there without stylish shoes"

The first equestria girls was not loved or loathed. It was not, in itself, terrible. It was... the difference between Fillet Mignon and chuck beef. A difference that the young or the unrefined might not notice, or might not care about that much.

but to those of us who enjoy the show because it was better. This difference is nothing short of a slap to the face.

and now...
a sequel... not just any sequel, but now they are in a cheesy, cliche, poppy rock and roll band.

something so transparently money grabbing, it has become a parody of itself in pop culture.

To me this says that someone has decided that quality product is not important. I think, someone has looked at old business practices that did have some success in the past, and assuming they can super impose such practices onto this new template.

This is a mistake.

A mistake that American auto makers made in some respects. (my next car will be German or Japanese, thank you very much) Poor product quality.

I think that if Hasbro's MLP doesn't pull its act together, the fandom will not die, it will just become self sustaining.
It has already been proven very possible.

and if that happens, Hasbro will loose money.

They might try and stop the fandom from useing their characters or world...
but so did the film and music industries, and that worked out so well.

this is a memo.

I think they write the Equestria Girls movies purely out of obligation and do their best to ignore it during the main series. See the way Flash Sentry was treated in this season's Discord episode.

So while I don't think it's doing any harm, it's certainly not adding anything, and that's a shame.

Fun fact: Filly Funtasia is said to premiere in the fourth quarter of this year. So they're putting this out around the same time Filly Funtasia's going to be.

Oh, the online wars will be legendary.

Seriously, though, I haven't seen the first one, so I can't judge. As Nostalgia Critic said: "Don't hate the new stuff when you still have the original to enjoy." Last Airbender review, real eye opener. Even Tarantino said "Never hate a movie". So... yeah, it'll probably be crap, but no one will be obliged to consume it. It, too, is part of life and shall pass.
