My feelings towards Pinkie Pie. · 3:12am Feb 3rd, 2014
Now I've been a brony for over two years now and my thoughts and views of the show have matured. But one little thing that has gotten me in trouble with other bronies is one little pink earth-pony who loves to party a lot. I am talking of course about Pinkie Pie.
Today, I brought a fact in the Youtube comments that while I enjoyed the latest episode of my little pony, I thought Pinkie Pride was just an average popcorn episode: very fun, but nothing special.
Typical reactions were either this or this
Now look, I have nothing against you if you are a Pinkie Pie fan. I know a lot of people who are Pinkie Pie friends. Pinkie has some of my favorite jokes in MLP. But still, I have very mixed feelings about her.
Why you may ask, while I do find her funny and energetic at times, she can also be extremely annoying and flat out scary at times. For me, her episodes tend to be hit or miss in my eyes.
"Party of One"; loved it!
"Feeling Pinkie Keen"; hated it!
"Too many Pinkie Pies"; loved it!
"A Friend in Deed"; oh my god I hated that episode! Seriously, why is A Friend in Deed so popular?
I understand she's interesting, but interesting does not mean she is the "best" pony (but remember, the "best" is a subjective matter not a factual one). People have asked me why I favor AJ over Pinkie and the reason is, AJ is just the more realistic and reliable character.
I know it's a cartoon but, that's my point. AJ (along with Rarity to a certain level) are cartoon characters, yet they behave and interact with the world like a real person would. Pinkie is funny and hilarious but, in my mind, she's just another cartoon character. That doesn't mean I hate her, but in the sea of all the famous and beloved cartoons from Mickey Mouse to Bugs Bunny, Pinkie just sort of blends in with the crowd.
Now I could write an entire essay on why Pinkie isn't my favorite, but in all honesty, I don't know how to put it. She just doesn't click with me. I'm pretty sure that's the best I can say.
Just as a thought experiment let me ask you this, if Cheese Sandwhich wasn't voiced by Weird Al, would you still view Pinkie Pride in the same respect?
Now let's just follow our own ideas and just learn to love and tolerate each other and not waste time arguing over which pony is better?
Ah, sweet truth.
Pinkie varies. I personally would write her as an exceptionally aware pony, no fourth wall breaking, but maybe some very slight awareness across time.
YES.
(And that goddamn, "She breaks the fourth wall, hur hur hur" joke we see in every bloody fanfic)
