SPOILERS Review to the One-shot: "H" by Silverstein · 7:58am Dec 20th, 2013
Words are all about this fanfiction one-shot. Words and more words. Words tell a story and words tell a tale. But words could also make someone fall asleep should those words be…wordy. Get my meaning?
What I’m talking about is Silverstein’s one-shot “H”, which tells the story of Rainbow Dash after her rise to fame with the Wonderbolts and her wants and thoughts of her mom and dad.
From the beginning, we get to hear Rainbow Dash think…and think…and think…She doesn't stop. It’s not a one-shot of action but of thought, in fact, there’s really no story or plot. But I see this one-shot’s main problem comes in very quickly, and that is that Rainbow Dash is doing too much thinking and we are getting every single little thought. With Rainbow talking about herself being in the Wonderbolts, she was established as a canon Rainbow Dash, and canon Rainbow Dash is not a thinker; she is a doer. This was in the back of my mind the whole time.
But this isn't all that bad, there is a silver lining to it all. With Rainbow’s thoughts, there is an air of longing, that there’s something missing with her, and she knows it too. That air of something missing resonated with me in more ways than I have ever seen almost anyone do. I think that this is the one-shot’s strong point.
As there is no plot (I’m watching all your snickering) the only point that us readers would have a deal of something is with the ending. I could compare it to Christmas specials you see on T.V. If this story was Rainbow flying through the snow to her old home, I could believe that, it has the same air and finish. And all is well………What a load of it. It’s an ending we've seen a million times, but can’t help but love it every time you see it. Though, that doesn't make it a bad thing because it is a good ending. I won’t spoil it because it want y’all to see it for yourselves.
It’s not the greatest one-shot ever, but it’s certainly has its own charm. While that charm doesn't give it a thumbs up from me, I certainly enjoyed it, looking past the more analyzing stuff. It was heart-warming with a side of hot cocoa.
Thanks for this. The next one will be better, I hope. This was my first romp with the SoL genre, I was actually expecting to be worse than this.
Fun Fact: The entire story was based off of a song.

1627861 It wasn't really that bad, it was just the technical stuff

You have no idea how many times people tell me that. I have a serious problem with technical stuff.

That's why I call myself a Padawan. I haven't mastered the art yet and it'll be a while before I do.

Master would be the nearly impossible rank. I guess I would earn that if I ever got published.
