The Delay and Bad Times of Caughlin Mare · 6:16am Dec 13th, 2013

"So," said Pickedum. It was a tense "So" - while Pickedum was always at least a little on edge all the time, this was different.

"So," said Caughlin kindly.

"So..." Pickedum shuffled her legs. "So how are you doing today, Caughlin? Eyes going well? How're Celly and Luna?"

"Yes, my eyes are good, thank you," said Caughlin, smiling. "It's so good to be able to walk around without my head mummified. Although I am a mummy. Ha ha!"

"Ha," said Pickedum. It was more of a wheeze than a laugh.

"Are you okay?" frowned Caughlin. "You don't sound too good..."

"Oh, no. It's fine." Pickedum's smile was a tad too wide. Or maybe Caughlin was seeing it wrongly. With her eyes, one never could tell... "Ah, by the way, just out of curiousity, how's the papers going? All cleaned up and good to go?"

"Papers?" It took a brief moment of uncomfortable smile maintenance before she remembered, and when she did, she bumped her forehead with a hoof. "Oh, those papers! The essays on trans-longitudinal chaos effect, using Magnios' Theorems... I'm so sorry, I haven't had time to do it."

"Busy with what?"

"Oh, not busy. Just... not having time." Caughlin looked away sheepishly. "What with the stack of new books the nurse got for me, and Surprise wanting me to try her cooking every now and then, and I've also been drawing up a little something on air turbines..." She saw the way Pickedum's lip was curling, and decided to change tack. "I'm sorry, I really am. I know I promised you I'd have it done, and I'll get to it right away. It'll be sent over in three days. Promise."

"It's... it's okay, Caughlin," said Pickedum, though the straining of her neck muscles told her it really was not. "I mean, you're doing this out of your own free time. Volunteering. It's fine if it's just a few days late..."

"But didn't you say you needed i -" Caughlin stopped. Best not to dig the pit any deeper, Caughlin. "Never mind. Look, I'll get to it pronto. Might even have it done by tonight, too..."

I have no excuse. Well, I kinda do, but I don't. What I do have are apologies, for missing the release date twice in a row. =s

Truth is that I've been spending a lot of time with the girlfriend. Being out = being at her place or somewhere eating, and being home = playing Age of Empires III or Touhou 10.5 with her on Hamachi (yusss). While this has helped to kill the budding of a LoL addiction, it has left me with little time left to fic about. Which I regret because I was really hoping to get Pretentious Coffee Cup done. =\

The good news is that Pretentious Coffee Cup will be all the more better for the road trip I took with her a few days ago, when we went to visit Swan Valley - Perth's tourist-y local-produce-and-wineries-and-dining trail, where I sampled some of the most interesting coffee I've ever had. So here's to that at least.

Both TLaToCM and Pipsqueak have a shiny new Twilight's Library ribbon! So that's always nice.

The Writeoff Association has done a writeoff and the entries are in, in other reading news! If you're looking for stuff to read and have an eye out for commenting, do please give this a look. While I didn't manage to enter anything, Imma be trying to read and give feedback; it's the main way one can support the writeoffs, which I personally find fantastic, without actually joining said writeoff.

There should be another Five Little Headlines soon, depending on when I next get to type stuff.

Back to TLaToCM, Chapter 16 is now out. Really not much left to go before I have to start writing fresh stuff, which is both good and bad. The chapters are going to be longer, too, so that's more plot flesh for you to sink your teeth into. Hurrah!

And that's it. Stay tuned and stay awesome.

I did not know the write-offs have a FiMFiction.net group. Good to have another channel and reach more people. Thank you for sharing. Maybe I'll read. review, and vote in this write-off; I will have the time since winter break's starting next week.

Nipping a LoL addiction doesn't count if you do so by developing an addiction to a different video game. :V

The group's brand new, and this is the first writeoff being run through it. :)
