Well, this is unfortunate. Seems that my iPod, which I had been 'loaning' to my mother, was burglarized last night. The very same iPod where I keep the rough drafts of most of my stories, so I can add to them on the go.
"But wait," you say, "That's no big deal. Surely you had backups of the data on your computer!"
EEEEEEEENOPE!
I was always gonna get around to it, but... well, I guess I'll let this be a life lesson. Back your crap up or that gets jacked, which is whack, Mac. The most notable losses include the first half of Milky Way's Wishes Chapter 2, my revision of Nonpareil Chapter 3, and, most devastating to me personally, an almost-completed Queen Chrysalis fic that was currently over 8,000 words long, several months into development, and slated to go up on the site some time next week. I believed it to be the best of my works so far, by quite a bit.
Oh, well.
What about accepting harmony? You gonna keep that one rolling?
Oh crap, I know how that is. It's beyond terrible.
I didn't have anything stolen from me, but I had a laptop die on me in the middle of writing something, quite literally, and none of my work was backed up. I gave up for awhile and pretty much left that fandom at the time. (Well, not that I don't fandom hop anyway, but I was so disappointed and angry, because the blasted thing wasn't salvageable without spending more money than anything on the laptop was worth.)
Now I more or less try to back-up everything shortly after saving it. At least on Google Docs. I'm too lazy to backup the whole computer, though I know better. I figure most of the other important stuff can go on a USB flash drive, if need be, and I used to make frequent saves to that but I sort of halted that semi-recently. I should get back into the habit, but cleaning them up after making major changes is a pain.
You have my deepest sympathy and regrets. I hope you're doing well btw.
