It refuses to boot up at this point.

So, yeah... I need to get a new one before I can do anything.

Sounds like a power system failure. Would be cheaper to buy a new laptop.

I will be. And it's the OS that's having a problem, and getting a replacement one of those might give me the chance to back everything up.
The OS is failing to load properly during boot up.
