Good Press (aka "'Onya, Age!") · 12:37am Oct 13th, 2013
In Australia, or at least down in the state of Victoria, we have a newspaper called the Age, that in my opinion has been getting less... interesting and good. However, on this morning's paper (Specifically, the morning of Sunday October 13th) there was a front page article about Bronies, interestingly enough. Now, while in America there's been media coverage and whatnot before, I'm not sure I recall of anywhere near as much, if any media coverage in the land down under.
Now, what really caught my eye about the article was the attempts it made to praise our fandom - or rather, everyone except the cloppers (by the way, you've now been referred to as a "nasty subset of internet trolls" collectively) - and talked to some Aussie bronies aged between about 19 and 22 about how they got into the show and why they find it interesting. I like that the journalist that wrote it, one John Elder, didn't try once to put a nasty spin on the things they said. He also interviewed an anthropologist, who stated outright in the most positive way that he would have done his PhD on bronies "in another life" because of how it's helping make men feel more open and okay with different kinds of masculinity. I also found the quote at the very end from one brony, name of Jake "Triggy" Taylor, rather funny; 'He also wonders when the fuss might settle down. "I mean, we're fans of a TV show," he says. "Get over it."'
It's things like this article, real attempts to properly understand us without taking the piss, which make me feel good about this fandom, despite what the ignorant and hateful might say.
EDIT: Thanks to another user I now have a link to the digital version of the article for you guys.
Well, that's awesome! Yet another reason to wish I was in Australia
1415466 Yeah, it's pretty fantastic that it happened. Feeling hopeful about the fandom again
1415491 Indeed.
Hey nice! Thanks for posting it :)
1419286 Heh, you're welcome! It's worth spreading the good word, I think.
