WHAT THE CUSS HAPPENED TO SPONGEBOB?! · 9:36pm Sep 9th, 2013

If you are a fan of the first three seasons of SpongeBob Squarepants like myself, please read.

In its prime time (1999-2003), SpongeBob Squarepants was one of the most popular cartoons of all time. It had great animation, memorable characters and great humor. It was the most popular animated TV series since The Simpsons, and in 2004, SpongeBob made his theatrical debut in The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie came out and it was a commercial success. After the movie came out, the creator of the show Stephen Hillenburg planned to end the series when the movie came out. But Nickelodeon said “No! Don’t do that! SpongeBob’s making us bling-bling! Let’s keep it going!”
So Hillenburg along with the best writers left SpongeBob in the hands of Nickelodeon. And what happened?

...What he said.

Everything in of SpongeBob Squarepants went downhill FAST. I don’t even know where to start. First of all, I can’t tell if the animation is better or worse than the last three seasons. While the animation does look clean, sometimes the other stuff like the faces or drawings are freaking creepy!

Second of all, while the stories in the last three seasons were really creative and humorous, these stories are the exact opposite. They’re not interesting, uncreative, boring and surprisingly mean-spirited!

And my third reason, the characters. Good lord, the characters. It really astounds me how they took such memorable, funny characters we grew up with and made them annoying, stupid or both! First off, SpongeBob was a really likeable character. He was an adult with the mind of a kid, he did make mistakes and is naïve but also really pleasant. But here, he is a complete idiot who is totally oblivious to everything he sees, his constant happiness is almost sickening, and he won’t stop CRYING! In the original, you felt bad when he cried or it was kind of funny with the funny ways he cried. Here, SpongeBob cries about the most idiotic things and you just want him to SHUT THE CUSS UP!!!!

Then there’s Patrick. He was SpongeBob’s best friend. There’s no denying he was dumb, but he was still a good friend to SpongeBob, always there to help him out, even though some of the ideas he had doesn’t always makes sense, which made it funny. But in the new show, he’s unbelievably retarded and unlikeable. He’s not smart in anyway and takes advantage of everything! I just want to freaking punch him in the face!

The other characters are also changed. Sandy has been changed to a complete annoying science nerd and is extremely bland. For Mrs. Puff, instead of being just annoyed by SpongeBob, they had her HATE SpongeBob and actually wanting to KILL him in one episode! I’m not making that up!

Mr. Krabs also had a bad makeover by the new writers. Mr. Krabs was a cheapskate, but he was still a nice guy, almost like a second father to SpongeBob. But here, they make him the cheapest douchebag imaginable! Seriously, he almost makes Plankton look like a saint! Oh, I should talk about him too.

Plankton is probably my favorite non-Disney villain, one of the most fun villains to watch since Jafar from Aladdin in my opinion. And what made Plankton great is that he didn’t appear in a lot of episodes, almost like the original writers took real time in effort to write another good episode about him. And all the time we waited to see another episode with Plankton in it was always worth it in the original seasons. Now while he didn’t appear in a lot of episodes in the original seasons, in the new seasons, he appears ALL THE FREAKING TIME! And every other episode he’s in gets boring! Sometimes they even repeat other schemes they tried; they did it twice to Imitation Krabs! And adding to what I said of how Mr. Krabs is more a villain than Plankton in these new episodes, Mr. Krabs pushed Plankton way too far in one episode where Plankton actually attempts…(And I swear I’m not kidding)…SUICIDE. I’m not kidding, SUICIDE. He actually lies in the middle of the road waiting for a car to hit him. What were these people thinking?!

Well, after all I said, not all the episodes are bad, there are still SOME that try to keep true to the SpongeBob spirit, and those few do it well, but not as good as the original. So if you agree with what I say, and love the originals, go watch them. And also, here are a few of the BEST episodes of SpongeBob, not in particular order;

Band Geeks, Chocolate With Nuts, Graveyard Shift, SpongeBob Meets The Strangler, Pizza Delivery, Sailor Mouth, Krusty Krab Training Video, I’m With Stupid, Plankton!, Squilliam Returns, Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy V, Can You Spare A Dime?

Spongebob Squarepants and The Simpsons both suffer from one glaring flaw. They don't know when to stop. This video explains perfectly what's happening to them:
