A fan theory on why the immortal princess of Equestria never chooses to confront world-ending threats directly despite her obvious power to do so:

Luna Having Children · 4:29am Sep 7th, 2013

For a variety of reasons, the idea of Luna having had children during her lifetime prior to becoming Nightmare Moon disturbs me. Here is why:

1. Luna's initial design in Episode 2 gives the impression of her being somewhere in her early teens, around twelve to four teen years old. I felt that this strongly supports her character, as it highlights that in her Nightmare Moon form she was consciously trying to emulate her sister by artificially aging herself. Although it could be argued that Luna is several thousand years old, her form and personality at the time still scream child to me, that by the standards of her race she is still very young. This produces the image that when she ruled Equestria side-by-side with Celestia she was still very young, which helps support the eventual tantrum when she didn't get the admiration she felt she deserved. The idea that someone would court her, make love to her, and impregnate her while she was still in this very childlike state of mind and development produces uncomfortable connotations of pedophilia and statutory rape.

2. Luna, in her second appearance, has noticeably aged and appears to be physically closer to her maturity while still being less developed than Celestia. However, despite the obvious physical changes her personality still comes across as very childlike. Now, part of this is the result of her naivete and culture shock at having missed out on a thousand years of history. Naivete is not a perfect solution, however, as we can see from her behavior that she is still very much a child at heart. Notable examples include: becoming despondent at the ponies' fear, "The fun has been doubled!", and her readiness to listen to a mature authority figure (Twilight Sparkle) despite her rank. The entire episode brings to mind the idea of a child ruler trying to bond with their subjects so that they might be a better princess. It is also heavily implied that this is not the first time Luna has attempted to participate in her subjects' celebrations and play alongside them, though that is a subject for another time. The main point to take away is that Luna is obviously not as mature as her sister or as experienced as Twilight in worldly affairs. Again, reinforcing the idea that she is relatively very young.

Now, you might disagree with my ideas and feel that Luna is fully-grown and thus able to bear children without squick. I respectfully disagree and feel that she should not be regarded as a sex object in fanfiction or art. It's pretty much foalcon to me.
