A Thorough Explanation of Why I SUCK · 7:00am Aug 17th, 2013
First, I have a few words.
Uuuuuuuuuunnnnnnnnggggh.
...Well, okay, one word.
But it gets the feeling across.
I have a lot of stories on hiatus. BtE, S&CM... okay, two stories. But still.
I want to put The Gryphons on hiatus.
I know! I know. None of you actually care about that story. (ingrates) But it’s really important to me, as I spent the better part of a year lovingly crafting it out of nothing. (and then abandoning that outline but whatevs) And I want nothing more than to give all of my time to writing it.
But here’s the skivvy–I’m going to college.
“What? ilvos01, you’re NOT a professional author who anonymously writes pony fiction, dazzling us all with your supreme writing skills?”
I know, I know, that’s what you’re all thinking right now. Crazy, right? I know it’s hard to believe. But I am in fact an amateur. Honest.
Anyway, for application to the Creative Writing programs of various schools, I need some writing samples to give them. And for the past two years, it’s all been pony stuff.
I don’t know about you, but submitting ONE pony piece is MAYBE okay for college apps. But all of them? Ehh. And anything before that two-year period, is, well, two years old. Not my best stuff. So I need to churn out, (I’m hoping) at least four good pieces of short fiction, to put in an envelope and send to those endless leagues of ivy farms.
So basically, putting all of my effort into The Gryphons (which is a super huge three-volume epic) (in my mind) would be a bit counterproductive.
So, that’s why I’m hiatus-ing it. Suitable explanation, methinks.
“But ilvos01, what about Gryphonies? That’s really all anyone cares about anyway, not your stupid epic fantasy bullsh-“
Hey! Watch your language, fictional depiction of the audience! Christ. There are children present.
Yeah, Gryphonies isn’t the most intellectually stimulating piece. I mainly use it to write on when I’m bored, or when I’m experimenting with my writing to see how a certain style or mode reflects on the readers. That’s why feedback’s important! It helps me to grow.
Like a plant.
You are my sunshine.

Insults aside, however, I also enjoy just messing around. Comedy writing is hilariously easy, and I don’t have to feel bad when I have a writing slump on it. It’s totally, 100%, a piece of noncommittal comedy.
...Which, on this site, it seems, means it will shortly be one of the most serious and intense pieces of literature here. It’s called Firewall Syndrome. It is the tragic fate of all successful comedy series. (You could also call it Red Dwarf syndrome, but not a soul ever mentions my RD references in all my fics, so I guess none of you are cool.)
Actually, I do this on purpose. At least, somewhat. One of my favorite quotes is (paraphrased) from Walt Disney. “For every laugh, there must also be a tear.” It’s a poignant bit of advice, that really lends some substance to what would otherwise be a two-dimensional piece of fiction.
It’s not that I’m making it a dark tragedy, but if I do my job right, there will at least be some tears.
...And if you DON’T cry, I could always tell you the tragic true story of Frodo the Owl.
Frodo the Owl will make you cry.
It’s a rule.
.
So, there you go. An honest explanation for my actions. I’m sorry I have to put off The Gryphons again. I still encourage you all to read and fave it, because I really feel like it’s going somewhere good.
It shall resume once college things are done. Which, as most of you know, won't be for a while. Also, not including the Ivy League thing, there are THREE weed jokes in the text above. See if you can find them.
Have a nice night, everyone.
I care about The Gryphons, at least. I liked the original, and I like the new one too.
1290641 There isn't a ponyface for happytears.
But you got them, good Xerzes.
You got my happytears.
Heh. Firewall syndrome. As long as it doesn't go on hiatus for over half a year, I'll be OK with that.

Substance? Plants?
I can't find those weed jokes, those don't look right. I'm a bit oblivious to things, I'll admit. And I know the feel. College is starting for me in a month.
