My not so awsome book review! (Poor Joey...)

YAY! What a fun half of the summer nearly over! And what do you do over the summer? Friends, Fun in the sun, maybe hit the beaches? Hit on girls maybe?
Pshhh. Everyone knows reading is where it's at. I've read two short books over July and August mainly for weird reasons.

    1) World War Z by Max Brooks

    2) War Horse by Michael Morpurgo

    I'M FREEEEEE!!!!!

    Hi everypony!!!

Sorry for the long period of inactivity. As some people might know, the last two months have been very stressful and busy for me due to GCSEs which had essentially put my writing on hiatus.

    Drama is best subject 0_0

Now I see why some people don't do drama. The acting part is easy ^_^ ; It's the write ups that you have to hate...
How many times do I write "this symbolizes/represents/connotes"? It just feels terrible with 25% of words being symbolism related :(

    e.g.

Pshhh. Everyone knows reading is where it's at. I've read two short books over July and August mainly for weird reasons.

1) World War Z by Max Brooks

2) War Horse by Michael Morpurgo

These two books are pretty fun to read, especially because they're not too heavy and certainly much easier for a casual reader like me to get through. So I'd like to present how and why I read these books along with a little review of them.

I read probably 2/3 of 'World War Z' like three years ago. (way before the movie was announced). Seeing the movie trailer made me want to finish the book just to know how it ended. I bought the book (first one was borrowed) and read it in 2 weeks; mostly because I only read at night. Being the killjoy I am, I read the synopsis of the entire movie and was disappointed at how the film redid the book. most of the plot went down the drain and for fucks sake could they even do justice to how the zombies are meant to be in the book ? NO!!

War Horse on the other hand was the result of me reading an article about the stage production adaptation of the book. If the Queen liked the play it must be good. Apparently the stage production did justice to the book and I decided to give it a read. I surprisingly had a copy of War Horse and was stunned at how much the book moved me.

Reviews below *SPOILER ALERT*

World War Z: Probably one of my favourite books about zombies ever. The interview style narration and writing is refreshing (although confusing at first) and what I enjoyed about the book was the focus on many of the other consequences of a zombie outbreak.Things like how survivors would be useless as an asset due to heir white collar professions and how ill-equipped the army was for a zombie outbreak. I would have loved to see this actual story been made into a movie rather than the action packed shooter it turned out to be.

The immense and diverse world in which Max Brooks has developed seems believable and making you ache for a wiki page on everything in that universe. One of the major events; 'The Great Panic' was the result of the world collapsing due to the media releasing the story of the zombie apocalypse. Something you know is always a lose-lose situation. You can't hide the truth and yet you can't reveal it and expect everybody to somehow not panic. Welcome to the world of global politics and peacekeeping.

The book really captures what humanity could suffer if an outbreak occurred. If you want to prepare for a zombie apocalypse, read this along with his other book 'Zombie survival guide'.

War Horse: Probably on my list of most emotional books ever. Like ever. Even though the target audience is of younger teenagers some how this book still reaches out to my age or even older readers. The one thing that will always come to my mind if I think of this book; "POOR JOEY. TOPTHORNE NOO :'( !!!" I mean What a hero, that horse.

The whole book is written in a first person view from the horse (his name is Joey. Cute.) and tells the story of him during the war. One of the clever aspects of the story is that Joey can seem to understand French, English and German but more interestingly; There is no speech from the other horses. Horses don't talk to each other. Yet somehow, I felt that close relationship between Joey and his wartime buddy Topthorne (another cool ass horse). They survive basically their whole time training together and the whole war together (even as POW's) yet Topthorne dies so suddenly and in such a sad fate. And it would not have been realistic or believable if both horses got rescued and brought home and lived on the same farm and then had little horse babies and had a family . That's stupid. only I can do that in my story. (new story arc idea :3)

Fast forward to near the end, Joey gets reunited with his owner/friend who grew up with him on the farm and they live happily ever after the war. BUT IT'S NOT HAPPY. Even though I understand that his first and 'true' friend, the boy that brought Joey up is with him at the end, I feel an empty hole for where all his other buddies die or are captured (And never heard of again) Without giving the whole story; this book left and empty hole in my heart for Joey. to define it; A bittersweet ending.

So? any good books anybody read over the summer? Anybody read these two books? What do you think of them?

And please, if anybody felt the same way I did for Joey, please comment. This was the only book that ever made me feels sad for a character even with a 'happy ending'. And this was written for younger teens/children.
