    a tribute a shoutout a question a plan

"Twilight?" Applejack eased her head through the doorway. Dulled clanks came from further inside, and much of the equipment crowding the room glowed with a dull purple sheen.

"Working!" called Twilight from the other side of the largest element.

    "Twilight, mail call!" insisted Applejack.

    Canonical Example

I have just tonight declared the season two time-travel episode "It's About Time" to be the canonical example of stable time loops involving sentient beings. Just wanted to share that.

Didn't even need to mention ponies to do it, oddly.

Screw it, propmts (AKA 72-hour flashfic contest, round one) · 9:42pm Jun 10th, 2013

Arg, prompts. I just got an idea for another one. I haven't gotten around to the last one yet though.

So y'know what? Flashfic contest! 72 hours from prompt announcement to "finished product" due.

Here's the rules:

- Entries must be on-line and relativly public. gDocs and even pastebin links are acceptable.
- Links to entries are due in the comments on this post by 12:47 GMT, on Thursday, June 13th (assuming my numbers are right. Localtimestamp mon-jun-10-17:31, in case anyone wants to check them).
- You can't submit something you already had written. It's got to be new.
- All entries must be valid as FimFiction submissions. You don't have to submit it if you don't want to, but you do have to be able to.
- That said, you have permission to suck. (This one will be tricky for me, especially given my premise.)
- All entries must use the prompt. (Obviously, or so I would hope.)
- This is not limited to my followers &co. (That'd get really boring.) Feel free to mention it to anyone you think would be interested, I'm throwing it at another friend as well anyways.

All good? Aright, here's your prompt:

Neal Armstrong found something on the moon. He's never talked about it.

Obviously, I know what I'd assume you'd come up with, but I'm not going to say it, because I'm hoping you'll surprise me. Remember the rules! Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go flash-fic.

I may give it a try. Time constraints being what they are, I don't know that I'll manage, but I'll give it a go.

It will be wretched, though. This I can promise. Wretched and predictable. Because, yep, he's going to find what you think he's going to find. Sort of.

Sorry about springing this. I was originally planning to ask you about when you were free, and time it somewhat around that, so you wouldn't be in as much of a crunch if you wanted in. Then I got another idea, and I can't hang onto both of them that long.

Oh, he will, will he? Really. That's not completely a surprise, actually, given what I know about your background. You'll probably do better than me. Well, it probably can't be worse than the inspiration. (I shouldn't have said that.)

...and I wrote it.

I, uh, got inspired?

I'm going to post it here, and on my blog, and provide a link for my watchers. Maybe a few will want to join the contest.

That okay?

I've decided to be a bad pony and jump the gun. I've completed my story, and I'm about to post it on my blog.

You can find it here: Hoofprints.

That's my entry, I guess. Hope you enjoy.

Yeah, sure, post wherever. I did say feel free to share with whoever. Of course, if you do, I'm going to look/feel really bad if I don't get something in, but maybe that's a good thing. Just make sure to link the entry around here before the deadline.

Man. It's gonna be hard not reading that before Thursday.

Hoary freck you're done already?!

1137696
I did link the entry. It's up there. It says "Hoofprints."

And, yep. I'm done. It's not a long story. About 2k. It sort of wrote itself, really.

...I really wanted to write for this, too... But I've promised that I'm not writing anything else until the next chapter of "Bell, Book & Candle" hits, and I'm finally getting some writing done on that, so I don't want to go jinx myself by jumping into something else.

It's bad enough I already found a new story idea.

Maybe next time? :twilightblush:

I think I wrote that comment before you put up the second, but that the internet around here being what it is I didn't get a chance to post it until 12 hours later. So, sorry that came across wrong. (I'm assuming it came across wrong. Please add a mental 'if' if it didn't.)

I'm avoiding reading it, or the blog post, because I still haven't hit 1k on mine :twilightoops::flutterrage::raritycry:. I'm already having to resist the urge to write ... uh... let's call it my version of your fic, based only on the title. Annoyingly, the version of yours in my head is much better than anything I came up with, and that's without the comments on your blog post (which I am avoiding once I realized they contained some potential spoilers). (I actually read the blog post itself. I'm going to have to comment there too, but I'll probably try to wait until after the deadline.)

1141657
Eh, that's okay. This was a random crazy thing anyways.

There will be a next time, rest assured. I've already got two other prompt ideas, getting one of them is what kicked this off the stack to begin with.

1142399 Ghost took it in kind of an unexpected direction... or style, anyway, I thought. I mean, the prompt really leads itself to one place and it's hard to escape that, but I suspect that if you wrote what you think Ghost wrote, you might well wind up with something quite different from what he actually wrote.

...sadly, what he actually wrote was kind of awesome, so no matter what, it's going to be hard to top. :pinkiesad2:

1142399
Oh, it's okay. I figured there's a bit of a mixup. Don't fret.

Regarding the story, while Hoofprints play a role[1] they aren't central. And I took it to a very odd place, all things said. You are unlikely to recreate it by chance. I'd say write whatever works in your head and relax.

[1] How could they not? The footprint is one of the most iconic images of the landing.

1142406
Oh you...:ajsmug:

Well, this probably doesn't reflect well

I --still-- haven't finished something. I've been scrambling (well, nominally so, at least) all day to try and make deadline, but nothing is done. I gave up on my ideas and moved along to the Ghost-inspired one, which is going much better even though I'm writing a completely different thing than I thought of at first, but that's not done either.

So basically , I have nothing to put up here.

I do have some scramblings from my attempts. I'll put those up later, once I've finished writing these other two. But that doesn't change that I don't have an entry.

Ironically, I don't have anything to make this a 'contest' even if there were more than one point x entrants.
