Three things you should watch before writing a story and a few important tips
Extra Credits: More Than Exposition
Extra Credits Word Choice
Extra Credits: Myers Briggs and character creation
I know its for gaming but you can also put this into your story telling and one important fact to use "PACE YOUR STORIES" do not go to fast with how the story progresses, its messy and confusing and dont go to slow, if you do it will take forever for a story to shape up. I highly suggest on figuring out what your story is going to be and set it in a pace that makes the story work.
Spread this out so people can really do better with there stories
Edit: I forgot to add this, I have seen people add music to there stories in which for a example "a human shows the ponies his ipod and runs random music", I am okay with this if it help the story flow( A good example is in equestrias last human in which the main character shows his love of metal music, and it effects the story in a meaningfull way later on), but if you just randomly add a song or use to many songs to the story that has no purpose, it ruins the pacing of the story and people lose interest. Ambience music is fine most of the time, since it just helps with the reader get into the story.
One last thing, the first part of your story is by far the most important. There are tons of people going through alot of stories and if you dont attract your reader in the first few sentences or paragraphs they will stop and go to another one, unless they stop and comment on it. Its good to read these comments to see why they lost interest. Though dont do everything they suggest, its important to do things in your way, make it your story. Mostly follow comments on grammar, pacing and sometimes content(though its good to have a talk with a friend about your story and see what they think)
Edit: a new video from extra credits views on character creation, this is perfect for creating oc characters or getting back on track on other characters.
(Those videos above are not created from me, they are just there for educational purposes, please support the original video makers of those 3 videos they are a really good series)
I probably need to watch that... I know where I want to go with my story, its just how to get there without it feeling rushed.
Edit: Thanks for putting the links in!
Edit: Edit: Very interesting, i will definitely by paying more attention how I write. Thanks for posting this.
