Is it pretentious? I've heard many people praise that book, but if it will induce eye-rolling then maybe it's not so great.

No, no, I meant my friend's application (which is not so much for the master's itself, but for the scholarship). You know, it's one of those papers where you have to explain how your life will be improved by getting your degree, and how you'll make the world a better place with all the knowledge you'll acquire.

It's also ripe for tooting your own horn at every single accomplishment in your life—no matter how small. The amount of boasting was dripping out of my monitor, and that's what caused the eye-rolls.

The book itself is pretty awesome, though I'm still just starting it
