So I had this idea. · 11:26pm May 25th, 2013
I don't even know who I'm talking to right now. I'm mainly just posting this for cataloging purposes.
It started with a gimmick-of-sorts: 'what if Twilight died at her entrance exam, and instead of passing on, her soul bound to Spike, who was taken in as the royal protégé?'
Well, not a whole lot, really. Just the same two characters in the main timeline, inhabiting one body. Though I think it'd be cool to write for an echo and their host.
And then it expanded into 'Well what if Cadance was the ruling princess?' And then that expanded into a whole history to make that happen. And then that expanded into the question of how Cadance would rule differently and how the populace would think of her. And at this point I realized I put so much into this that I may as well keep going.
Now I have an alternate universe, six/seven main characters, a daunting project, and lots of time to write. But, questionable writing skill. I have no idea how good I am, because I've hardly released anything ever. So basically I've become RainbowDoubleDash with no followers, questionable confidence, and no portfolio. Discussion with my friends/prereaders has dubbed this either the Cadenzaverse or the Echoverse. Suggestions and opinions welcome.
At time of writing, I'm a couple chapters' writing into the first story and the outline for the second is done. I also have a policy that I do not release chapters or stories until they're finished. I know I hate when stories I like get dropped and never completed (assuming people would like this). The plan is to plug at it in the background while I write other stories of multiple genres, themes, and levels of seriousness to get a feel for this. And the whole time, there is one pervading thought going through my head:
What the hell am I doing
