Cutie Mark Crusader Terrible Fanfic Writers! Yay! · 9:15am Jul 19th, 2012

If you are new to the art of writing, the skill of telling a compelling narative, and the knowledge of what (usually) does and does not work in storytelling. If, in other words, you approach the subject with the same level of skill and experience (and with broadly the same outcome) as the Cutie Mark Crusaders approach any subject, then for pity's sake DO NOT PRESS THE PUBLISH BUTTON.

Once you press that button, you stop being a bunch of stupid little children with no idea what you're doing, and you turn into the Flim Flam Brothers, who claim to have a finished product which has passed rigorous quality control, and which is fit for general consumption by anybody. Be very careful which group you chose to join. Remember that it is actually perfectly acceptable to hit one of these groups upside the head with a two by four, if it turns out they did a terrible job and lied to us - and it's not the CMCs.

There is a middle ground. You can upload your stories without publishing them, and have some proof readers check them over. Yes, this takes time. You have to write the story. Find some proof readers. (Preferably people who know more than writing than you do.) Persuade them to look at your work. Wait for them to do so. Try and fix the problems they find. Ask them to have another look. Rinse and repeat as needed. Yes this sounds like hard work. That's because it is hard work. It's also how good stories are made, just like good cider.

If you fail to do this, then feedback like this is the least of what you should expect in the comments section.

I want to cut out the first chapter of your story and mount it on a pike in my garden, as a warning to the next ten generations that some mouse clicks come with too high a price. I want to stand there, and wave at it, like this.
