How to Improve the Episode, "The Cutie Pox": Make it more Canadian! · 11:20pm May 12th, 2013
The episode "The Cutie Pox" with a bowling scene, made memorable by a completely unexpected visual reference to the Coen Brothers film, "The Big Lebowski". Everyone remember that? You ought to. People LOVE that Lebowski reference. Personally, I enjoy the Star Wars references more, because they're sometimes extremely subtle, but whatever.
Anyway, a bothersome aspect of that scene is that the ponies are playing ten-pin bowling, which utilized really hefty bowling balls with finger holes in them, which would serve no purpose for a race that has no fingers.
I've thought about ways to improve this, and I came up with one:
We Canadians are blessed to have a variant of bowling, Five-Pin Bowling, which, like Canadian football, is superior to it's American counterpart.
For the purpose of improving the believability of the episode, it serves well, because five-pin balls are smaller, easier to grip, and have no finger holes. The Lebowski reference would still be appropriate, since it's still bowling. If you could live without the Lebowski reference, the ponies could have been Curling instead.
Since the animators are situated in Vancouver, it wouldn't be surprising if they knew about five-pin. They'd have been able to put it into the show, as a shout-out to Canadian viewers, and I doubt anyone would complain.
So there.
