I have the same problem with ingrown toenails. Best to just let it bleed. Just take pain relievers.

Get some medical vaseline...
Put it on the cut/wound
Put on another bandage/tissue paper
Thats what I do, it usually works...
If that doesn't work...
I'm out of ideas...
Grow out all the others really long and pull a reverse-Mayuri.

Correction, apparently I severed more than half the nail, tearing a blood vessel. The blood didn't clot very well last night, till just an hour ago. And the blood! I cannot tell you how much exactly leaked out, but I have several bloody tissues, one shirt plus two socks soaked in blood, and the blood leaked on my bed sheets. Thank goodness my mother didn't see the damage that my clumsy knife skills inflicted.
Goes to show the fool who plays with sharp objects gets hurt.
I can barely even type with this huge bandage covering my middle finger. I will be lucky if I can even avoid infection.
