Ok guys, Welcome to my first ever Nuzlocke Challenge! In case you missed the blog last night, these are the rules to my Nuzlocke challenge:
Any Pokémon that faints is considered dead, and must be released.
The player may only catch the first Pokémon encountered in each area, and none else. If the first Pokémon encountered faints or flees, there are no second chances. If the first encounter in the area is a Double Battle in dark grass, the player may choose which of the two Pokémon they would like to catch.
While not exactly a definite rule, the general consensus is that players must also nickname all of their Pokémon, for the sake of forming stronger emotional bonds.
Also not a definite rule, but the general consensus is that a black out/white out is considered to be "game over", even if there are Pokémon left in the PC.
I'm ready to start, but I need a few things from you guys: first, vote on what starter I use (Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle) and give me a nickname option for your vote. Second, I need a name for my rivial. I'll be giving daily updates with pics as I do this challenge! :)
Edit: my vote for starter is Squirtle, nicknamed Shellshock or Donatello

Also, if you ever run into a ghost Pokemon that you happen to catch, you should name it Jerry.

It would leap upon Arceus' groin and tear out his nuts.
It would start with 120 in every stat at level 1.

That's why it should be like SUPER RARE. Like legendary levels. Even more.
There's only one. And it lives in some godforsaken desert where there's nothing but durants for it to tear into and eat. It would just protect its small patch of land, just like real honey badgers, and the second you step foot into its domain it attacks you and instantly reduces all your party pokemon's hp to 1 each.
If you somehow manage to beat it and catch it, any party it's in will have their hp drained slowly over time, and as a new mechanic, its pokeball will wear down over time and break eventually if you don't keep replacing it.
And you have to also have a vespiquen handy at all time for it to latch onto and suck the honey out of or else it REALLY gets irate.
... time to write a letter to gamefreak.

You know, my theory for Gen 5 was that it was meant to mirror Gen 1, sort of like a 'spiritual return' to the original.
If you actually do a side by side comparison, you'll find parallels in quite a lot of them across the board not only just based on the type but also in the 'idea' behind them.
I actually liked it that way. I didn't have as much issues with Gen 5 as I did with Gen 3 and 4.
I actually thought the ice cream one was quite creative, although not EXECUTED well. IT just looked TOO much like ice cream. If it had been more about the balls of weird stuff with icicles less pronounced, I think it'd have worked better. I fault the design, not the idea.

And seriously, don't even get me into the horrendous messes that are the 3rd stage evolution of Magmar and Electabuzz, two pokemon who already look like shit to me. Gen 1 wasn't free of bad designs, mind you.
Up till today, 15 years on, I still question what the fuck Mr. Mime is supposed to be.
Also, who's with me that they should really try harder with the names?

The votes are in! Starter will be Squirtle (i'm wearing my Squirtle shirt for good luck) and since i had two votes for TMNT themed names, im going to be neutral about it. The name will be Ralph. I'm hoping I come across a Ratatta right away, so I can name him Splinter. XD
Rival will be named Lazarus, since he keeps coming back from the dead for more punishment.
