Something that bugs me... · 11:13pm Apr 22nd, 2013
... Is when people add a new "chapter" to their story informing those that are following it that the story has a new sequel or side story. I just don't think something like that has a place in the actual story. Why not put that in your blog, or at least in the story description instead?
... And don't even get me started on when people put an actual blog as a chapter. Oh, I've seen it.
I dunno, it's just a little pet peeve, I guess. I can't be the only one, right?
I suppose it's for the people who favorite the story and not follow the author. Although it does make the chapter list look a bit less "professional".
I only dislike it when the notice gets it in the feature box again
1027339 But even then you can put each individual blog to give a notice for people following 'X' story.

1027341 Yeah, basically. I feel like it's just a cheap way of getting your story more views sometimes.
1027348 Precisely.
(Also, good to see you again. :3 I feel like it's been a while.)
1027352 I really don't mind it often. It's like "Oh hey a sequel, sweet!" and then it's in the feature box's last three slots and I just can't help but think another continuing story could be there.
1027358 It has, hasn't it? Good to see ya again brother

I sort-of agree. I don't really agree with that to write a sequel. You could post it in the last chapter's notes, in a blog, or anywhere else. There's a reason for the feature that lets you tag blogs, that's for sure. However, if you're doing something other than a sequel or a blog - advertising a dramatic reading or another author's offshoot are some examples - adding a new chapter for that sort of thing kind of makes sense, and I'm not just saying that because I did a dramatic reading that got advertised in this way. That's the best way to get more viewers. But if you're doing a sequel, the people who actually cared already followed you, so they'll see the new story anyway.
Been a while since
i've seen you around
FINALLY :
Never happened to me, but if it were to happen...

This is fo whoever would do such a thing!
1027652 it's been a rough past couple weeks. Last week alone was particularly rough, since the incident in Boston struck particularly close to home and my family also experienced flooding in our basement because of torrential rain.
I know I haven't been doing much, but I'm trying to get back into things.
I personally prefer it. The Notification system on FimFic is terrible and unreliable. Before the overhaul, new stories didn't even appear in the list, and don't even get me started on the RSS feed. After, you have absolutely no way to determine what notifications you've read and which you haven't scrolled to yet. Those problems are squared for anyone stuck with the newly unavoidable/mandatory feature-starved-but-garbage-on-mobile-devices "mobile" site format.
So yeah, updates in the Favorites feed of sequels is really useful for a lot of people. I can understand disliking it, totally, but I thought I'd point out why some people might appreciate them.
Stay awesome, regardless!
I've actually never seen either of it. a lot of people missuse the favourite feature just to keep track of a story, so the intention of posting news about a story in the story itself has to be to reach these people - or maybe it's just to get some extra views. either way, it's kind of silly.
I honestly like it for when it's talking about a sequel. The notification system is a mess, and if I read a story all the way through in the first place, there is a good chane it will intrest me again.
It gets even more notable if like me your coming back after a months absence. The notifications are nearly useless, but the two "there is a sequal" updates are fine.
Not a fan of blog posts or the like inturuppting or being added though/
