The Mysterious Princess-Do-Well · 4:20pm Apr 6th, 2013
So I just watched The Mysterious Mare-Do-Well and yes, it is just as horrible as everypony says it is. I became a pegasister in the Season 2/3 gap, and I put off watching this episode for months because of all the negative reviews. And the reviews were right. But it has two redeeming factors.
One, we never actually hear what Dash's letter to the princess was, so for all we know, it could have been something like,
Dear Princess Celestia,
Today I learned that my friends are total jerks, and also whoever said no good deed goes unpunished, they were right.
Your faithful subject,
Rainbow Dash
And two, while watching it, I realized something interesting.
Now, if you don't know who Ponyphonic is, you need to get off your rock farm, STAT. But for those rock farmers out there, Ponyphonic wrote an excellent song about Luna's descent to the dark side called "The Moon Rises."
At 1:10, there's the lyrics,
Am I so wrong to wish that they
Would see things like I do?
And am I so wrong to think
That they might love me too?
Why shouldn't they adore me?
Is it not within my right?
I'll not be overshadowed!
Mine is not the lesser light!
So it hit me that these lyrics would apply equally well to Dash in Mare-Do-Well. Also not the similarities between these two pics.
I don't know if it was intentional or not, but it seemed to me that Dash is in the exact same position that Luna was 1000 years ago, being unfairly overshadowed by someone they trust.
And with this in mind, I would love to see the Royal Sisters' reaction to that particular letter.
Mortal I think you might just be reading too much into it. But this is rather interesting to think about.
