Before we go any further, I must do the obligitory RANT warning

Anonymous.
That word. As a name.
Why.
Why do people think putting that as the name of a protagonist, lead or otherwise, is a good idea!? And it always seems to apply to Human stories to! Why!? Can't people think of a more original name than "Anonymous"?! Seriously, why?! Just. . . why? Please, if there's some sort of reasoning behind the name, explain it to me, because I can't really see a reason why to do this! If it's to make it easier for your audience to identify with the main character, to let them become that person more realistically, it really doesn't. It sounds like you couldn't just come up with a name and decided to slap on (one of) the most generic sounding names in existence out of sheer laziness!
It's annoying, dull, and makes you look like you couldn't be bothered to come up with anything halfway decent! Why would people use it!?

It's because of 4chan. OF COURSE!
The stories with Anonymous are usually written on 4chan's /MLP/ board. And since 4channers are referred to as "Anonymous"...
"Anon" = self/audience-insert for /MLP/
But yeah, I'm pretty sick of "Anon in Equestria" myself. It's pretty lazy and serves no purpose other than wish fulfillment.
...Besides, Emiya Shirou is best human in Equestria.
