Last: Reasons for the Delay · 6:48am Mar 16th, 2013
Howdy, readers.
It's been almost a month since I've updated "Last", but I'd like to just assure you it's not for lack of trying.
Like probably 99% of writers on FiMFiction, I of course have a thousand things in my daily life calling for my attention, and without them I'd likely have the whole story written by now. But I'm not going to give y'all that excuse and leave it there. I'll tell you what the real cause of the delay is.
You may be able to tell from the chapters so far, I'm trying to experiment with how chapters are formatted: Sometimes they're letters or reports, sometimes it's a soliloquy, and sometimes it's a traditional description-and-dialogue affair. It all depends on what information I want the reader to receive in each chapter.
I've known since "Last"'s inception what information I want the upcoming chapter to reveal to the reader. The problem is that I insisted on using a format that required me to bloat the chapter with dull, irrelevant information as well. I've abandoned that approach and am trying a more traditional style that's proving much more promising. There's still a lot unfinished that may end up pushing back the deadline, but I really have to keep looking till I find a way of telling the story that is natural for me to write. I THINK I'm close, but only time and effort will tell.
Until next time,
Alan Smithee
