What is it that makes a story shine? That is the magical question that many authors seek.
For me, I am going to ask the people. (which is you) From the best of your knowledge, what and/or how is the best way to make a good story come to life? What is it that some stories lack? (my stories to be specific)

believable characters, good dialogue, good non-dialogue exposition, interesting scenarios... and for the love of Derpy, get a damn proof-reader.

To me, I can hate a story but love it based on the writing style.
I like Skyrim, but the story line is just plain awful...
The dialogue too...

I base my biggest opinion on the writing style, but if the style is crappy yet the story still works with the style, than it is good.
Overall, it's very complex.
