A Comment That Pissed Me Off. · 5:20am Feb 27th, 2013
I have written two fanfictions set in the world of My Little Pony, both crossovers and of the 'Human in Equestria' genre. The positive support I've received is overwhelming and puts a great big smile on my face. When a reader takes the time and effort to leave a comment I'm always eager to see what they have to say. With that said I do occasionally receive a negative comment. Thankfully most are content with pointing out various grammar or spelling errors that I make from time to time.
These are honest criticisms and I have no rebuttal against them. English is my native language and, I will be the first to admit, I’m not that great when it comes to spelling and grammar. It does not bother me when readers point this out. Nor does it bother me when other writers make occasional mistakes of this kind. After all, this is fanfiction. It is something that we all enjoy as a hobby; for fun. It is a product provided free of charge, for all to peruse as they see fit.
For myself, I am very forgiving of errors made in fan stories. This is a community driven social media where we all can exchange our thoughts, ideas, and feelings with each other through the stories we tell.
Now, I post my work on both fimfiction.net and fanfiction.net and from the latter I received a very nasty comment on my ‘Mass Effect: Continuum’ story.
I quote, “Absolutely disgusting. Shame on you for shitting on such a wonderful and well thought out video game series with your autistic ponies.” End quote.
This was a comment posted on chapter one. Four days after I had posted chapter seven. I doubt the toad-headed butt-loader even bothered to read the story, let alone give it an honest critique of my storytelling skill. It is the first negative review that truly pissed me off to the point that I needed to write about it. So, please, forgive me for posting this in my blog. I just needed to tell someone about it since the commenter was anonymous and I can’t chew him out for his arrogance.
Different strokes for different folks.
I don’t understand the attraction for Doctor Who/Warhammer 40K/Dragon Ball Z crossovers with My Little Pony. I simply do not like them, but I’m not going to crap all over people who do enjoy them. As I’ve said before, this is fanfiction. Our only limitation is the scope of our imagination. If I don’t like it, I’m not going to read it. Yet I am content to leave you alone, those who find entertainment in stories like these.
I do apologize if I come across as being overly harsh, as that is not my intention. I hope you understand the point I am trying to make here. Rest assured that this is not going to stop me from writing. Not by a long shot. I just needed to put this out there and am already feeling a lot better for having done so.
Good night everyone, and stay safe.
sadly the world is full of that kind of people, the best course of action is to ignore them. I think the sometimes forget that they are on the internet and that their comments have no value here.
As much as I like to try to be forgiving and see the other person's side, I have to agree with you here. That comment was just shamefull. It was a slam on you, it was a slam on your story, it was a slam on the show, and, if you think about it, it was an offhanded slam on autistic people. As much as I like freedom of speech and believe that people should be allowed to state their opinion, no matter how negative they may be, there is a more respectful way to do it. There was absolutely no need for what that guy/girl/whatever said. It did not improve anything, it did not further a cause and it served no purpose other than to insult. No sir/madaam (I don't think I ever figured out which you were) you were not being overly harsh, that guy/gal/whatever was being a deuche.
Always gonna be people like that around, best bet is to not dignify them with a reply imo. Regardless, I think the story is still quite interesting. Have you considered a prereader/beta for your chapters? I think it would definitely help with the grammar, you tend to have a lot of partial sentences.
869686 Wrong. If the wrong person sees that kind of comment then it can have all sorts of consequences. You never know who you're talking to, who's day you just might have ruined, or who you might have just pushed over the edge in a depression. Not everyone can ignore those. Or at least they don't realize they can.
Wait... That hack posted that commentHERE?What the hay was he doing here in the first place? What, did he (or she, technically, but I'm just going to assume the ass in question belonged to a he) hear about this somewhere, come here, and make an account just to troll you? Sure, my faith in humanity is rather low, and folks on the internet even more so, but this is shaking eventhatunsound foundation!Edit: Oops. Misread the post. I thought you said you didn't post this on FanFiction. My bad.
Heh. Haters gonna hate.
On a completely relevant note: I had no idea that DBZ-pony crossovers were a thing. I feel this odd compulsion to investigate, but I think I'll abstain for the sake of my sanity-- DBZ got silly enough all on it's own, imo. >_<
Anyway. Keep on keeping on, and don't let random asshats get to you. If you ignore them, they'll go away in due time.
those are the kind of comments that make me think "Your welcome!" let them have a 404 in their head.
I think there should be a worldwide law, where if your comment is just spiteful with no actual criticism, just bashing the person and not helping them, you should be put in jail. Politicians could call it the "Stop Idiotic Persons" law, but the rest of us could call it the "Don't Be A Cunt" law.
if someone hates you, you're doing something right, so don't feel bad that one anonymous jackhole was being... just that, an anonymous jackhole, just take solace in the fact that you got underneath someones skin and be happy you did
i for one love your mass effect story, and i'm still looking forward to more, keep up the good work, and remember, having haters is a good thing
870405i second this motion
i really don't see a legitimate reason on why you should even be mad or concerned about a comment like that
My biggest gripe with the fanfiction.net: they took away our precious "Disable Anonymous Review" button.
Who was the one who made the comment about autism. I want them to know how it feels having to live with it eveyday in a town where your best case is people think you are a idiot. Those of us who live with it just want to be treated like eveyone else. And I have read you story and I can saw with absolute cerainty that your characters have no link to autism.

I'm fairly certain that comment about autism [which he stated was anonymous] was less 'about autism' and more implying that anyone putting ponies in with a game series they like must be evidence of mental damage of some sort.
the poster was probably just your random shit for brains call of duty 'bitch' who thinks he's hot shit because he plays call of duty XD

Just don't feed the trolls, and all will be well with the universe. (Well, except the fact that there are trolls in the universe, but meh.)
