Congrats my friend, I hope this helps you out in your situation
849195 So do I! I'd explain my job, but I'm not allowed to, or I'd be in violation of the terms of employment, and I'd be fired... ON MY FIRST DAY!
Then don't explain it lol but congrats again man

You're transfering money, aren't you? Doesn't sound too secret.
861042 True, but if I start talking about it, I'd end up talking about parts of it that I'm not allowed to talk about, which would get me fired...
861047
How cute to finally see a person who takes those paragraphs seriously.
As long as you don't give away cutsomer's information it's perfectly fine to talk about the job, but you'll get that.
Good luck with the new job!
861052 Thanks, and what do you mean 'finally'? Does noone take you seriously or something?
861055
Neigh, not mine, but those of discretion. The people of my... environment either don't care about it at all, or instantly begin to rage when they are not allowed to talk about they job. You know, they go like 'why, is there something illegal running in this business?'. Everything that's beyond privacy is not tolerated to be censored in this beautiful part of world that I call my home.
It's just nice to see someone stick to the job so tightly. Colours of the world...
861062 Well, I think discretion is important. Asking for it to be used within your workplace isn't a bad thing. It can be annoying, but would the kind of people you talk about really want the world knowing things they could use against them, just because they believe discretion is evil or some stupid reason like that?
861066
What things do you mean? Place of residence, age and even names are privacy and therefore discretion is legimated. But questions of structure, methodes and standarts are often seen as necessary informations to be known in public for the save of the employees. There could be something running below the system, after all. Especially in a company as big as the Western Union.
861094 The thing is that if people know everything about the system they can take advantage of loopholes or weaknesses that system may have... it does make the company sound shady, but imagine if criminals or terrorists were to use those weaknesses to fund their organizations in other countries... the companies they used to get the money to their associates would be responsible as well...

Well, that's why it certainly never should be public to 100%. Somehow, I begin to think that 100% is never a good value to aim for. It just makes things... extreme.
Anyways, of course there is a reasoning behind those paragraphs, else ways, it would be the biggest conspiracy of the history. I can't say how I would act, though. Working in big concerns isn't really on my wish-list, and since I'm heading for a academic career discretion is nothing that I see in my way too soon. Everyone knows how schools and universities work!
Then again, they are also save. Of course, they don't have the money that's cirulating in the economy, but they don't have to fear other companies. N'ah, that's dump. Informations between companies is something that can't be controlled by discretion. Nor I can see terrorists gaining strength by that. They are following political/ethnic targets and fight the population to make the governments act.
Baah, I'm so not made for economic problems.
861299 I'm not made for social problems. I suck at socialising in most situations

That's why we're bronies. Cupcakes instead of problems.
861344 Mmm, cupcakes.... (insert Homer Simpson's drooling noises here)
