A lot of good stories seem to be plagued by formatting problems brought on by people not using quotes properly.
One grammar rule that seems to be being forgotten is that one is supposed to start a new paragraph with each new speaker. Seems silly, but it breaks up walls of text, and lets the reader know that a new person (or pony in this case) is speaking.
