    Don't ever forget

I was reminded tonight of two important things that I should always keep in mind when commenting on the internet.

    1. Don't take anything anyone says personally.

    2. There are real people on the other side of those words, just like me. They have feelings too.

    Season 5, Ep. 18

    ...

    ...

I don't think any of us were expecting that.

    Wow.

    Kiss your headcanons goodbye, folks.

And I was considering skipping this one.

You don't ignore your Muse, once she's got her hooks in you.

I've been fighting a lack of motivation for writing (as if you couldn't tell), but something weird happened last week that fixed it. Kind of.

How to Write Dialogue for Applejack - A Friendly Guide

The first thing people seem to want to do is misspell words on purpose so that the words will be read in the same way that she speaks them. This is most commonly done by replacing “I” with “ah” or, strangely, “Ah” to keep the punctuation correct. I’ve also seen, “Mah” (my), “Thang” (thing), and “allus” (always).

    Surprise!

Interesting how the end of the season always seems to bring on a rush of creativity. To that end, I bring a post for a story that some of had perhaps given up for dead: Applejack's chapter of 'Youth and Growth'! Wow, has it actually been two years since I updated that silly thing? Yeesh.

See? What were we so worried about? · 12:27am Feb 17th, 2013

Deep breath... exhale.

Okay. That's that. First, let me say that that was a fantastic episode! The first musical episode and in a show where pretty much anyone can burst into song at any time, that's saying something. Second, this episode really, really needed to be a two-parter. There was so much going on, so much that could have been explored or expanded on (how did the rest of the Apples react to Pinkie suddenly ruining the farm?), but with only thirteen episodes, apparently you have to do what you can. And third, apparently there is more to come in the opener of season 4.

Holy Celestia on a segway, we've had three seasons of this!

We could be looking at a change in how things go down in Ponyville now. They've made such a huge deal of this whole thing that I'm really feeling like it's a permanent change. I'm okay with that. I really don't think Adorkable Twilight is going anywhere, especially now that she's got this princess thing going on. She'll have to learn etiquette, diplomacy, budget management, trolling - there's a lot of potential here. Also, I really want her to have to take flying lessons, because that would be hilarious. Based on the last two seconds of screen time, it's probably not going to happen, but that's what fanfics are for, right? The writers and crew and cast love us (and watching everyone thank the crew on twitter is adorable and makes me proud of you all - you have such good manners!) and want to keep up the standard they've set for the show. They wouldn't try so hard if they didn't care. I trust them. Everything's going to be fine - Twilight even said so!

P.S. My headcanon now says that Cadence is an ascended unicorn, since this happens, apparently. Celestia and Luna are the only true alicorns.

P.P.S: A second viewing brought on a round of liquid pride for me. So many possibilities for Season 4! The haters who hate the episode are merely afraid of change. And I didn't catch it the first time, but Fluttershy, speaking on behalf of the gang, explicitly stated that they loved her. And Twilight replies, "I love you, too." Even if it was corny, even though I saw it coming, even though the delivery was a little cheesy, it was my favourite part of the episode.

I think what most people were afraid of is the fact Twilight and the others may have changed. But everyone reacted exactly how they should have. RD excited over a new flying buddy, PP wanting to throw a party, Twilight concerned over her student/teacher relationship with Celestia etc.

Although a Rarity excited moment would have been wonderful. Shame writers...shame.

Overall I'm calling this a success. See you in S.4 you lovable crew.

I agree with you to an extent. I'm a little upset that the status quo has been so grossly disrupted. Twilight may still be adorkable, but she's no longer the simple librarian that I knew and loved. Any story dealing with her, be it a fanfic or an actual episode, will have to take her princesshood into account. That could very well mean no more fun slice-of-life stories, no more hanging out with her friends, no more picnics and slumber parties. If Twilight is going to be a princess, she'll have to act like one; otherwise, what was the point of giving her wings?

I trust the writers not to ruin the show. It's just that now, it seems like an entirely different show, and it's a show that appeals to me a great deal less.
