Almost done, yay! (or maybe not)

    Hi guys and gals.
The good news is that I finally finished the final chapter of After Destiny.
The bad news is that I absolutely hate its last scene. It gives no closure and pacing is weird.

    Subtle differences

Human fiction: "Curses, I didn't expect a thunderstorm right now."
Pony fiction: "Curses, I forgot there was a thunderstorm scheduled right now."

    Human fiction: "It's a 6 hour drive, or a 1 hour flight."
Pony fiction: "It's a 6 hour flight, or we can take Twilight-Train."

Human fiction: "The mailman lost my mail."
Pony fiction: "The dragon burnt my mail."

    [no title]

Ending WRR turned out to be a great decision. I'm now leaving my comments in the stories themselves, where I can actually interact with the authors and they become much more useful. It also helps me think about how I'm writing as well, and how I can invite comments to my own stories (well, the two of them), something I sorely miss. I'm inclined to believe my WRR is gone for good.

    I have over-estimated myself

Progress has been excruciatingly slow but fiercely steady. I'm getting like a dozen or two words in every day. I'm finding the time to write, even if it's not very much, and when I do, it's hard to concentrate and get momentum. I could call it writer's block, it probably qualifies many people's definition. I could actually cop out, polish my first three scenes and call it chapter 2 of 3. But I

Weekly Reading Report IV, and thoughts on my writing · 2:18am Feb 5th, 2013

Hi everypony! :3
This week was veeery busy with IRL stuff. This made me have the slowest week since I started this, only 131054 words read. I did get some interesting stuff read, though.

The Finally Finished Faction offers Life on the Frontier by Starwind Dood, with the final 9kw.
This (not very) little (very) fun story took half a year to complete. It's about the only story featuring Little Strongheart I've ever read, and it does a wonderful depiction of her: young, fierce, determined, and incredibly open-hearted and strong-willed. At the same time she's not very witty at all, cultural gap and all, which puts her square into adorkable territory. Braeburn is… different. Not in a bad way, but it's not easy to swallow at first. Finally, there's always Carrot Top and Derpy, a pair I have seen in a billion different ways and it - mysteriously enough - it always works!! Definitely a good read, but not that much of a page-turner for its sheer total length of almost 100kw.

The Delightfully Disturbing Drama Llamas offer the shortie Deceit by Wanderer D with almost exactly 4kw.
It's, again, a shortie, and pretty grim story with an ending that left me quite shocked, and had a lot of moral ambiguity. Now, I did notice the author tried his best not to leave room for moral ambiguity, but these days, my friends, these days I trust no narrator. It was very ambiguous. Were Prince Blueblood and Princess Celestia to exist, I would be very very disturbed to even hear about the possibility of such a story having happened.

And I'm drawing a blank for how to name my next category, but the three stories below fall in it. These are stories that had really interesting premises but seemed to be going in no particular direction, and now seem to be finally going somewhere.
* Greenfire, by True Blue Spark, published almost 4kw this week. A complete alternate universe re-imagining of Spike as being a regular hoarding dragon with no relation to Twilight Sparkle who lives close to Ponyville and starts talking to Rarity.
* Pinkie & the Brain by ItsDoctorWhooves, published 2kw this week. Pinkie gets a horn which gives her unicorn powers.
* Equestria from Dust by soundslikeponies, published 4kw this week. Story of the creation of the world dealio. Up until recently, each chapter worked well on its own but felt completely unrelated to other chapters, but things are finally starting to come together and recurring themes are starting to make sense. I'm still unsure if I would recommend this fic when finished or not.

That's all, folks.

On real life news, I'm going to Toronto in April! It took me a lot of blood, sweat and tears to secure this ticket for me and my wife, and we've finally manged! She'll be visiting Canada for the first time. I'm really excited about that. I hope language won't be that big of an issue.

On my writing… I'm kind of feeling incredibly self-conscious about that. I kind of hate The Unpine now, and I may hide it if I discover that hiding it is possible. I do like Big Bang, I hope I can keep it as-is after Twilicorn (and I will if I conceivably can), and I'm starting to kick myself to start writing its damn prequel already. I've actually been writing a few small pieces of dialogue that are going into Artaelian's Ruining Harmony, and I've been itching to write, but… how can I find time for this? I only get to read as much as I do thanks to the bus… and I can only write with headphones on… ok, you know what? I'm throwing excuses now. I promise I'll say I'll have written something next weekend.
