    Don't ever forget

I was reminded tonight of two important things that I should always keep in mind when commenting on the internet.

    1. Don't take anything anyone says personally.

    2. There are real people on the other side of those words, just like me. They have feelings too.

    Season 5, Ep. 18

    ...

    ...

I don't think any of us were expecting that.

    Wow.

    Kiss your headcanons goodbye, folks.

And I was considering skipping this one.

You don't ignore your Muse, once she's got her hooks in you.

I've been fighting a lack of motivation for writing (as if you couldn't tell), but something weird happened last week that fixed it. Kind of.

How to Write Dialogue for Applejack - A Friendly Guide

The first thing people seem to want to do is misspell words on purpose so that the words will be read in the same way that she speaks them. This is most commonly done by replacing “I” with “ah” or, strangely, “Ah” to keep the punctuation correct. I’ve also seen, “Mah” (my), “Thang” (thing), and “allus” (always).

    Surprise!

Interesting how the end of the season always seems to bring on a rush of creativity. To that end, I bring a post for a story that some of had perhaps given up for dead: Applejack's chapter of 'Youth and Growth'! Wow, has it actually been two years since I updated that silly thing? Yeesh.

Good grief, you guys! *Spoilers* · 6:28am Jan 30th, 2013

Dear bronies everywhere: CALM DOWN.

I know all of you are panicking because you think Twilight becoming an Alicorn will RUIN EVERYTHING FOREVER, but I don't think that's going to happen. If we can recognize that her changing species is going to limit her story-telling potential, don't you think the writers know that too?

Reasons why you should set down your torches and pitchforks:

- First and foremost, My Little Pony is a cartoon that was created to sell toys. To market different lines of toys, Hasbro tells DHX what they want to be shown on screen. Case in point: Crystal Ponies. Hasbro wanted the show to promote a whole bunch of crystallized ponies, including crystallized versions of the Mane 6. The writers and crew went to a lot of trouble to introduce a new setting where crystal ponies would make sense in the context of the show. By doing that, they also came up with the perfect excuse to crystallize the Mane 6, if only for a little while. Just long enough for there to be a reason to release crystal edition blindbags and what not. Which leads me to my next point:

- There is absolutely no evidence at this point that Alicorn Twilight is a permanent thing. None. In fact, let's take a look at what we know
"When Twilight casts a spell that switches the Cutie Marks and destinies, the only way to reverse the spell is by writing her own magic." - Episode 13 synopsis.
That's all we have to go on, plus some official artwork. I don't know what it all means any more than the rest of you, but if I had to guess, I'd say we're looking at a possible body-swap episode, or some version thereof. And I have been looking forward to a body-swap episode for two seasons now. If anything, I'm excited. But, again, no evidence that this is permanent. I don't think it's going to be, because this is (still) a kid's cartoon and in kid's cartoons, Status Quo Is God. Twilight can't leave her friends, because she's the main character. If she left, they'd have no story.

-This one is a long shot, but since the show staff knows who we are and loves us (and we know that Hasbro loves our money, at least), they are going to do their best not to alienate our demographic. At least, I really, really hope so.

Okay, everyone take a deep breath, hold it for the count of three and let it out. It's gonna be fine. Just trust the writers.

What? Speculation? Don't mind if I do!
So, as we've seen, Twilight is apparently going to try switching destinies (whatever that means). Let's unpack that. First of all, the Hub promos have been babbling about some kind of 'Princess Coronation' and there's been some buildup to the Crystal Empire. Back in the premier, one pony called Cadence the Crystal Princess. So - what if Cadence doesn't want to be a princess? What if it's her destiny and she can't escape it? "You cannot escape your destiny," as Obi-Wan said to Luke - hey, there's another Star Wars reference they could throw in! What if Twilight gets wind of this and tries to help her out, thereby turning Cadence into a unicorn and herself into an Alicorn (which seems to be the only qualification needed to be a princess, apparently)?

OH MY GOSH. Did I just predict the season finale?

I agree, mostly. Alicorn Twilight wouldn't be the end of the world, but I'm still hoping they don't make it permanent. It would signal a major change in format for a series that was going so well before. Why fix what ain't broke?

this post = all my win! I've been saying this since those vectors began looking more and more official.

773144 I'm glad you agree! Everyone else just wants to panic. I admit, it was a bit of a shock at first, but John DeLancie was a shock too and look how that turned out. Also, I love your Punkie Bell icon.

772743 Although, if it was permanent, we'd get to watch Twilight learning how to fly: she'd read every book she could find, write ten essays, ask Dash to teach her, then suddenly discover she's afraid of heights and crash into everything while Dash laughs at her. That would be worth it for me.

Also, thanks both of you for commenting! I didn't know anyone actually read this thing and figured I was just yelling into the wind.
